POE 2: Class Gender Lock is a Step Backwards
Another attempt by the tail to wag the dog. Posting more and more of these threads demanding the same thing over and over ought to lead to threads being locked for violations of forum policy. =9[.]9=

That is is silly.
Are you a tourist? |

As someone who likes character customization, I agree it would have been nice. That said, the game looks good enough for me to look past this as something relatively minor.

" You do realize the rigs are already there right? Every class can use every skill gem so how do you think the Witch or Ranger does a leap slam if the rig isn't there? They don't have to reinvent the wheel... |

"He's just repeating what the developers have said. They have told us that creating extra genders would come at the cost of development resources. (Resouces that could be spent on new classes/new skills/maintaining POE1). If I had to choose between genders or more game content, I would choose more game content. If it was as easy as just adding an MTX, no one would care if they did it or not Last edited by Metronomy#6891 on Nov 30, 2024, 11:37:51 PM

" Yes, but if you create a male Witch, Ranger, or Sorceress, you need a male rig for them. Same with a female Warrior, Merc, etc. I guess they could use the Merc rig for a male Sorcerer, but then he'd move like a Merc, and you lose distinctiveness between classes. If you went down that path you might as well have only 2 rigs and all classes look the same. That would be a worse game, in my opinion. Also, to clarify, I wasn't talking about just skill animations, but every type of movement. Edited to add: I am not a computer animator so I could be completely wrong here. I am happy to be corrected by someone who knows better. Last edited by Magn3th3ad#5076 on Nov 30, 2024, 11:51:46 PM

" Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that was in relation to character customization. A bit different between swapping whole models and modular customization, or maybe I got 2 different interviews mixed up. Anyways from my knowledge on 3D and what I have seen in PoE already I wouldn't think it should be that hard but then again according to google they are using a custom engine so maybe they have more technical hurdles <shrugs> As for time, like I keep saying sfar as I see it this would just be another MTX which they work on as well. |
|
" I'm not a dev so I can't say for sure but unless necessary I imagine they reuse what they can, I would not be surprised if the skeleton for witch, sorceress, and even probably the ranger, etc, is the same one. Then you just wrap a different skin around it, but since the moveset for all the gems is the same thing there wouldn't be a good reason to make different ones, hell you could just scale the skeleton a bit larger or smaller to give an impression of difference and then all the MTX don't have to be changed either as all you have to do is scale them up and down as well. (which again already happens in PoE 1 with certain parts of Rage and that one shrine) |
|
" If the devs say its too much work than it is. There is also very little to be gained by such addition. They want you to roleplay as very specific character with its own personality the same way Witcher games are. |

Even though I'm a usually a devoted male character player, I think its a very low priority issue:
1) The game isn't tailored as an active social hub where you're expressing yourself often 2) There are many avenues for skill expression and builds on classes that are away from your preferred class choice |
