POE 2: Class Gender Lock is a Step Backwards
Should we really balance and build games around catering to a fringe minority?
With all the effort to get your request put in the game they could probably add 20 new end game bosses, or a full league of new content. Characters are built around specific archetypes, their gender is a part of that. If you dislike that, choose a difference archetype or maybe discuss it with a professional.. since it's entirely a you problem. I'm very masculine IRL and I have no problem playing a female character. |

Your choice of Gender is
Females: Witch, Sorceress, Huntress, Ranger Male: Warrior, Mercenary, Monk, Druid Enjoy |

" Honestly it wouldn't be as much work as you think, just about everything is interchangable since all classes can use every skill outside of a handfull of ascendency bits. Really could just increase the size of any of the female models (this is already a thing in PoE1 btw I think certain rage and notable??? combinations make you larger with rage, or hell that one shrine does it too), change the model a bit to look more muscular and as long as you don't bulk up too much clipping shouldn't be an issue then just touch up the model some more like hair etc to be a new character and you got a dirt cheap Warrior alternative. This is arguable way oversimplified but it's not as much of an issue as you are making it out to be. Last edited by Ashgan9#6435 on Nov 30, 2024, 8:37:03 PM

Why bother to cater to a fringe minority?
What's the logical reasoning? They could put those efforts into making the overall game better, and that benefits everyone. Letting me play a male witch does nothing for me. Adding new uniques and bosses makes me enjoy the game more. Let them focus on what makes the game better for everyone. My 2c* |

Its not a game were you make your own character like in elder scrolls. Its a game were you play as specific character with its own personality and backstory like in witcher. I hope this clarifies things. Neither design choice is superior. You may prefer one over the other (i prefer the witcher aproach) but it doesnt make the other one wrong or bad.

" You're just calling it fringe minority because you are looking at it from the modern day politics standpoint, however if you look at MMOs going back for decades, men play as women for insert whatever reason. So this isn't really that much of a minority thing, in fact I'd wager half the people who spend money would probably pony up for an alt skin. Also they make MTX constantly and it's how they make their money in general. I get it if it's not a you thing but don't equate modern politics into this. |

It's not an MMO, why compare two completely different things? I don't know anything about those games or even like those games.
D2 had similar archetypes, it's the game that POE pulled the most inspiration from. The game is still popular today, and still just has the same genders, nobody cares about the genders. I put probably 10-20k hours into that game as a kid and never once heard someone complain about gender of the classes. |

nothing wrong with genderlock options just becuz other games have customization doesnt mean every single other game has to have it aswell

" it wasn't about the game type and more so the people, you said fringe minority, I said it's not and mentioned why it's not a minority. Anywho I was just playing devils advocate, it is a bit amusing that so many are against a request for an MTX tho lol, as if GGG doesn't make those all the time. |

Gender choice means they need to create a second rig for every class, so it increases the amount of animation work for every movement for every class. I prefer they spend the time saved working on the rest of the game.
I have no issue playing a female character in a game. I don't need the fictional character I play to represent me; I already do that myself IRL. |
