This. Path of Exile's ultra-widescreen support was flawless before this patch.

So, they are making up nonsense, or (more likely) they intentionally broke something behind the scenes to brick ultrawide support.

stop the hyperbole, please.

the game wasn't ok

Stop the white knighting, please.

The game was absolutely 100% fine at 32:9 before. Played hundreds of hours the past year at that aspect ratio and never encountered a single issue that made me think "oh, they need to fix PoE for ultrawides".

They bricked a feature that was working perfectly for absolutely zero legitimate reasons this patch.
The 352nd character to hit Level 100 in Standard
The 82nd character to hit Delve 1000 in Standard

the game wasn't ok, in ultrawide you could see content outside the activation radius, clicking outside the (invisible) activation radius horizontally wouldn't even make your char move there. and the game wouldn't register hitting enemies there either.

Except this isn't a bug, it's a design choice. They limited the area in which your mouse works exactly so that ultrawide resolutions did not confer an advantage in being able to click farther away. It's a radius around your character. There are many posts in which GGG has stated that over the years, for example: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2472306

Likewise, enemies not being hit in those areas is the serialization issue that was the stated reason for this change, even though this has been known since Alpha and has been seen as one of those things that you just live with when using unsupported resolutions. Here's a little known developer called Chris Wilson saying they knew this might happen in 2011: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1177#p22214

This change is senseless and completely out of left field when they have encouraged (and sometimes even touted) unsupported resolution projects and setups since before the game even launched. That 2011 thread I linked references a screenshot Jonathan posted in a resolution wider than 32:9 and discussions about plans for this exact implementation from 3.19, which were later abandoned because it wasn't that important. It seems quite silly to then 11 years later suddenly decide that this thing that everyone involved had known from the start and decided to allow now necessitates a sudden change to how the game works when so many people have come to depend on it.

The more correct solution would be handling each of the issues as separate problems and employing solutions that are best suited to solve each issue with respect to itself.

Removing a non-essential feature that is causing a number of issues without introducing more issues is called an elegant solution.

i agree, the solution isn't elegant and there must be more pressing issues than players being able to click outside the activation radius and chars dying because they're not moving.

i mean, 98% of all my char deaths are caused by my char not moving or skills not activating when i want it to do so.

regarding fairness, i don't know. the other solution to limit the horizontal view to 16:9 would be adding fog left and right. which players probably wouldn't like either

like i said, they're not telling us why they suddenly had to piss off a majority of the playerbase.

there must be a sound reason they're not telling us. i think it got something to do with botting.

for example, selling items directly from your stash to the vendor was quite comfortable until they fixed it.
and one streamer went into delve with niko's vendor screen still open.

it's a engine which is designed under presumptions which aren't valid anymore, they knew that but the issue wasn't really pressing.

something must have happened that they went overboard and killed it for ~20% of the playerbase.

i got a 3840*1600 screen with bars left and right and still hope those are bugs cause the ui designer thought the ratio is really 16:9 ;)

Been playing on 3840x1080 for years, rollback or my support is gone for good. Without ulrtawide, this game is dead to me.

Bumping again.

Samsung Odyssey 5120x1440 here, game was flawless in 3.18

PLEASE fix this, I have zero motivation to play the game right now.
... well the Kiwi Pet is not amused he says he wannt the black bars at the side go away ..
GGG while i'm sure you won't admit it I just want to make you aware that the image you are projecting is that you have 5% of your development team allocated to the live game and the rest on POE2.

There is no way the lack of polish and content that is coming out after 3 months is the result of a strong dedicated team of software engineers and game designers.

You need to get your act together.
Here to show support for the wide exiles.
I'm really disappointed in this change. The black bars don't even capture the mouse nor take input so if I click in them my character won't move. It's killed me a few times.

Capture mouse setting does nothing.
