The Self Found League

I completely fail to understand the view point of SFL must not happen / it will destroy the game / the internet will blow up / the world will end, type of posts. It seems a case of "everyone must play the game the way I want it played, no-one is allowed to have an option or a choice other than what I want / demand."

Why is it not possible to try a short term temporary SFL balanced to compensate for no trading with everything destroyed at the end to save the precious economy. Similar to the descent races which had different drop rates and no moving to default.

Are all the doom mongers / must never happen brigade worried they might be proved wrong and therefore we must never even be allowed the option to try.

Please note this next bit is just a case of "what if" and not saying this would happen.

If a SFL did happen and for some reason everyone flocked to it (cannot see it happening as a lot of people seem to enjoy the trading game) Surely all that would proves is that the current model is not the most popular amongst the customers. In which case why maintain a play style that the majority don't want to keep a few rich traders happy.

Edit... Chris you say you are worried about a SFL, but you have already run Descent races with modified drops to compensate for no trading, where is the harm in trying this as a separate short term league with everything destroyed at the end.

I think that some are genuinely scared. None of us have a crystal ball, but what really matters is that the fear exists, and that's enough.

BTW, personally I have no interest in a temporary SFL, so that one is lost on me, and I don't believe there are more than a couple of people in this thread that would be satisfied with that either, and yes I have read the entire thread. (I'm after a permanent SFL with slightly better drops per the OP)

However, I did stop playing a couple of weeks ago, and I doubt that I'll be back. (not QQ just a simple fact. Only posted today because I saw some rubbish that I couldn't help but respond to =))

The reason? I tried to look at the issue from a GGG perspective, say months from now, in release. If there was a SFL in place, and I was a new user about to try the game for the first time, what would I do?

I think I would test the water in the SFL with the slightly better drop rates, and "just see if I enjoy playing". There, I've been able to completely ignore the entire economic landscape on my first day in game. The game economy that is a foundation, (to GGG) and the most important feature. (as stated by them)

If I was GGG, that would probably scare me a little too... it looks like two games.

So yeah, I've basically given up on ever seeing a SFL, or at least one that would work for me.

Good luck to everyone.

Alternative solutions to a SFL are absolutely relevant to the discussion of a SFL.

Me: Hi, I'd like a hamburger.

You: How about this Chiko Roll, it's really tasty!

Me: I told you, I want a hamburger. Tell me about your hamburger options!

You: This Dim Sim looks yummy, it's still food, probably what you really want anyway.

Me: Don't tell me what I really want, I've already told YOU, burgers ffs!

You: I'm really only offering shit sandwiches today, was deliberately wasting your time.

Oops, devil won.

Arrogant and childish. It's a shame you found it necessary to belittle people in you quest to prevent the desire or others. Perhaps when you've calmed down you may have some more useful input.
Hi

This tag idea of ScrotieMCB seems very complicated compared to what most SFL'ers are describing, it would seem easier to just make a league with: increased orb rates for crafting,no mf rolls except on implicit gold and uniques(support gems iir/iiq world drops), and if you want to party:no loot timer(drops that drop for you remain yours), and of course no trading. 4 simple points of what would SFL be to me.

It is nice to read that these individuals are showing their true colours, if troll is a colour, and motives that are selfish and arrogant in expression. As mentioned before(by myself and others) Please keep on track/respectful of others ideas no matter how misguided they may appear to you.

ScrotieMCB, why so many great ideas on other threads and all of a sudden this blatant arrogance of others ideas on this thread? No one likes Trump tactics, not everyone is going to get their golf course...and most of us on this thread understand this yet it doesn't stop us from imagining the green and a hole in one.

RECAP: 4 MAIN SFL POINTS: 1. Increase orb drop rates to allow more crafting
2. No MF rolls except on gold implicit jewelery and Uniques(support gems iir/iiq world drops only)
3. No loot timer( what drops for you is always yours)
4. No trading

It is true a SFL league would not be very hard to create, perhaps a short term trial run like a month SFL race to test the waters?

I don't get the absurd fear of SFL, although it reminds of me of whenever I ask people to imagine living in a world without money or oil, people seem to start worrying not about what I asked but more about what kind of a individual I am to have ever thought of this...

Cheers, another bump, another day

Not sure if you will see this and I hope this doesn't come across as rude. I just see it differently (and I'm hopeless at typing...sorry).

I see that people could look at the idea of slightly increased drop rates and think that it's going to be easier than default, but I just feel that it would actually be harder than default for the basic reason that almost every item, gem, etc you could wish for is available in default via trade, but in self found there is no guarantee you will ever see the item you want for a certain build beyond the quest rewards.

As long as this was made clear I don't see people getting confused about 2 different games and I feel they would be more likely to try the game out using default as it gives them access to trade and all the equipment available there.

I agree, there are many "sacrifices" that are made (willingly of course) to play Self-Found, and these things have been conveniently overlooked by some (not all) of the doom-sayers. I played completely Self-Found anyway, (as many seem to do) and hit the familiar brick wall; no need to dig that dead horse up and beat it again though.

My reply was more about "new customer perceptions" really, since a newbie player won't have any funds for trading, and likely won't understand the deeper economic/balance/builds issues in the game. GGG don't explain any of this upfront now, so why would they bother for a SFL?

Of course, this is just more conjecture on my part, and I would love to be proven completely wrong.

Anyways, I stopped enjoying the game in it's current form, and stopped hoping for an answer, so 'twas time to move on. Cheers.

Hi

I looked over the new SFL league created by Emtwo, not even the first page and it already has been muddled by our (sarcasm)favorite misanthropes. I found it amusing that Emtwo mentions everything the same as this thread mentions but minus the increase orb drops to even out the drop rates if a person was going to play SFL.

cheers,daily bump:)

i dont like the idea.
you want to force others to play by the rules YOU ARE SUGGESTING.
why not gather a bunch of friends and play self found rules on your own?
Requiring a league just so everyone else that plays are forced to those rules sounds selfish.
Plus you are totally able to play self found in EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE LEAGUES.

Yeah, but in a Self-Found League it's 100% provable you got your items on your own where people will believe you. What credit and accomplishment is there to gain doing a self-found thing only yourself will appreciate and "whoa!" at? No credit or much of an accomplishment at all.

Hrmm, I'm beginning to wonder if the real issue is the solo-player vs. party-player advantage-discrepancy.

Btw, Vakirauta, you do know that your posts show the date/time that you posted right?

I like how you think that your trolling is somewhat more justified than his bumping.

Also, reading the date twice is more interesting than anything you posted, so far

Amiag, thank you for your valuable contributions.
TY to those who called me out on my BS on these forums. There is no benefit to being so selfish as to fail to acknowledge others' differing beliefs of what "should be" or believe your own opinions so supreme as to be factual and thus dismiss others' opinions as being somehow a lie or delusional.
