The Self Found League
" No need to thank me, sir. While I may get a bit tunnel visioned or downright myopic at times, I do genuinely want to find a way to get what I'm after while improving the overall quality of the game for everyone. I fail more than I succeed, but I also try to be reasonable in my discussions here. I think that, on the whole, this thread has been more successful than most in terms of reasoned discussion, and I'd like to keep it that way, no matter how the debate may turn out. |

my vote is for a self found league where any items dropped in any case whatsoever would be destroyed ( with the destroy warning of course ).
as much fun as i think a self found league would be to play, it also would be MASSIVELY enjoyable to have a league where RMT trading is not running amok. do what you want to the girl, but leave me alone.

This really is the most amazing suggestion out there right now. Descent races are fun because it's all self found with higher drop rates. They are the most unique and amazing races out there and I would have fun if they made one last for a week to see if I can make it all the way through it.
Trading is powerful, boring, and mostly filled with greedy people I never want to come in contact with. PoE is an amazing game that gets the solo play way better than it's group experience. Don't get me wrong, because I love a good MMORPG or even how D3 has it's system. But those are big company games that are highly optimized to handle it. D3 was really fun to play with friends and I did it often. PoE solo is an amazing, difficult, fun, and smooth game. PoE grouping/trading is an easy, choppy, and frustrating game. |

" I was actually going to make a post suggesting that Scrotie and I take our discussion to PM so as not to hijack the thread with tangential issues like loot allocation. I agree whole heartedly that Scrotie is an extremely intelligent individual. I do think though that the disagreement goes beyond the mere scale to which players abandon other leagues and flock to SFL. Scrotie holds the belief that a large exodus to SFL would be a bad thing, whereas I'm convinced that even if everyone went to SFL that this is not inherently bad. If everyone, or just mostly everyone, would prefer SFL then how is harm being done by providing it. At the very least, it would give GGG the power to address the economic issues of trading leagues during a time where it would have minimal impact due to people playing SFL. That, I believe, is where the true disagreement lies. |

These are just some of my key assumptions, re SFL if it ever came to pass:
I don't believe anybody has asked for a Hardcore SFL. Therefore, players in Hardcore, Onslaught, or any new HC ladder will not be "flocking" to this league. That leaves Standard and Anarchy, and Anarchy feeds to Standard anyway. Therefore, the only economy that will be affected long-term is Standard, and only by those that have very little or NO interest in trading. Many people of like mindset have made it clear in this thread and others, that they are effectively "invisible" to the economy ALREADY. (like me) Even if EVERYBODY in the Standard League, by some overnight miracle, forsook all desire to trade, all desire to accumulate and use wealth, all desire to collect the very BiS gear/builds, all desire to climb to the top of the "achievement" ladder first.... yep I'm chuckling too, so I won't go on... If you play in SFL, and accept the limitations of being forever bound by the RNG gods, then you cannot be a min/maxer, and you cannot ever expect access to the "desired" uniques in the game, no matter how hard or long you play for. Some key builds and play-styles may FOREVER be unavailable to you. Nobody in this thread is asking for changes to the RNG that would result in a loot pinata for SFL. Any suggestion that GGG would create one ON PURPOSE, and destroy the economic foundations of their existing game model, are ludicrous in my opinion. Many have cited the Trade-weighted RNG as the reason they (or friends) have left the game, or are considering it. Perhaps some of these will stay on, and even more may return. " Well, funnily enough, now that you mention it, I might give HC a go for the first time, SFL mode. =) (strange, HC has never interested me in the slightest before) Last edited by DijiGo#2281 on Jul 31, 2013, 4:03:02 AM

Just few point SFL is good idea for me:
- easier balancing drops (uniques for example ) - no impact on game economy - craft/currency testing easier I suppose there would be many players, which would prefer this league. There could be even "solo timed league with loot pinata", which could be running for few hours/days/months with total wipe/delete when done. Players would be able to test many possible builds without impact on any other player/economy. |

I still find it fascinating that noone from GGG gave any feedback regarding this in the 67 pages of this thread. I started to expect at least an attempt of an answer at page 30 or so...
Well, I do get some amusement out of seeing GGG answer to people too lazy for a 10 sec google/forum search and then thinking of this thread. In any case, if this was a world where game companies would actually share their data I'd like to see metrics on how many currenty active players trade (and the frequency of trades + some other variables) and metrics of people that quit (trading frequency, level, time played, wealth...). Alas... |

i would plyay this one!
