The Self Found League

" Yup. This is one of the reasons why SFL has increased drop rates/quanity/quality as part of the league. That way you're more likely to find items for which you can seed alts. Last edited by Courageous#0687 on Jul 6, 2013, 11:23:57 AM

I really like this idea and would love to see it implemented. However, I often level chars and do runs, etc... with a coworker. We share gear and low currency. If he's playing a caster and I find a wand that's an upgrade for him that my melee char doesn't need, I'll give it too him. If I'm out of chroms and just found a great upgrade that needs colors rerolled, he'll give me a few.
I've been trying to think of a way to allow limited gear sharing while eliminating the trading economy. What I've come up with is having a trade list of 3-5* other accounts that you can trade with per account. It would be permanent, so those 3-5 accounts would be the only ones that you could ever swap things between. I feel like this would allow players to add their regular playing partners without generating a trade economy. Even if someone had a Kaom's for trade, would they really want to take up a permanent slot to do a one time trade? Thoughts? I haven't read all 50 pages, so perhaps something similar has been suggested? *3-5 I tend to think that 3 would be a good number, but if you play with a full group you would need 5. So, I'm not sure what the number should be. |

+1 to idea
And about solo play vs party issue... why not make it so, that HC version of this league means that you can't play in party, while SC allows it? Of course in SC items either can be dropped in few first minutes after picking up, or until player enters city, or even another area or instance. Latter would be bit less resource demanding (server don't have to keep track of times of many items, and just sets one value to item when player is changing area/instance, or checking it once someone tries to drop item). But on other hand timer solution would prevent RMT better, especially when combined with items disappearing from ground after few minutes... Also there is issue, that playing in party grants more exp... which i think should be nerfed in that case, so exp rate will be same for solo and party players, to prevent rushing in party to top of SC ladder. About drop rate in party vs solo, there might be little increase for party, so everyone can have something to choose from from loot, but not too much. Then solo players might not be way behind team players. And for those that want to have perma-death, why not make two ladders each for HC and SC? One for those willing to die, and other Iron-man. In case of Iron-man, after death players are just changing ladder they are in. But that rises question: allow to play Iron-man characters with regular ones in SC mode of such league, and how to prevent them from playing together if not? I admit, it could complicate thing, but just so that even solo players might have access to playing in team in SC version if they choose to once for a while, without beeing force to level other character in other league to do that (and still have some chance of getting somewhere in ladder, if they can somehow beat nolifers). Though if there were solo self found and group self found leagues, i think i would chose group. I can always don't make any party, or join one, but i have option to do it, so i can play with some friends/overcome some difficult part if my build can't handle some part well yet. Also slightly better access to orbs would be good idea, since in self found leagues crafting could be really handy tool... Especially eternal orbs, but too much of those could turn it in to craft it into craft-it-yourself-league. |

"This is a perfect example of why the Self-Found League should not exist; instead, self-found in the leagues we have should be fixed, so that every league is a self-found league, and a trading league too. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" you cant have both. You can play self-found in a trading league but thats just not rewarding at all also as long as you have trading there will be botting and item/currency selling from third parties Dogs Summoner - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/885199 Last edited by Amiag#0234 on Jul 6, 2013, 7:49:44 PM

"Diablo 2 had botting, d2jsp, and trading... yet self-found still worked out just fine in that game. You're acting like these things are mutually exclusive, when they're not. That said, I do agree that the combination of trading and farming will always be stronger than farming alone; it's strictly superior because it has more options available to it. But that's not to say that trading must be overwhelmingly more powerful than farming (self-found). I believe that there are ways to better balance farming and trading, making it a small enough difference that self-found players do not feel they are at a significant disadvantage. I think the key is to prevent items of universal utility from being available for use as currency. When item utility is build-specific, exchange rates become build-specific, and an essentially one-currency system like we have now becomes impossible. I would play in this league, and prefer it.
-I hate trading in item-based games. -It means that the most successful players are the good businessmen, cheaters, hackers, and scammers. (Not to put regular businessmen in with those, but you get my point. -One of the things I love about PoE is there's no gold. -I think trading is a waste of my time...I'm here to play co-op with my friends or solo to relax, not to get the added stress of haggling for virtual goods that don't even actually exist! -I already had my account hacked once...and through no fault of my own. And why? Because trading exists in this game! Hackers wouldn't do anything to a Self-Found character! I nearly quit the game over it, it was such a violation. -I want to have *less* worry and stress in a game I play. No worry about getting hacked again. -And in a self-found league, I'd have the satisfaction that all my game achievements came about because I personally accomplished things and was fortunate. |

I like this idea a lot. Highlights some issues D3 had and show's where some aspects need change.

" You summed it up pretty well there, Czarevna. QFT. I am in the group of players who think the "economy" adds nothing to this genre of game at all. I'd suggest that it be ripped out of Standard on those grounds, too, except that I know that there are a large number of players who have not seen the light... yet. ;-P Last edited by Courageous#0687 on Jul 7, 2013, 11:43:28 AM
