The Self Found League

If GGG wants to say that trading is a core feature then thats their call. I think it just feels strange to people to look at the game that way. How and why is trading a core feature? Wouldn't the game be just as good or better without trading for those who would rather play it that way?

People normally look at a dungeon crawler and think about how much fun it is to find and craft their own items. In this game those two things take a backseat to trading. That seems counter intuitive to me. People can scream that its possible to do SF now all they want but they know as well as anyone else that its playing the game in a way that it was not designed for. Some people will like it sure but most people will see the flaws in trying to play that way.

Edit: It was nice hearing Athene ask for a SFL. At least GGG is hearing about it a lot and thinking about what they can do to improve.

You know what blows my mind about this topic? YOU of all people cheerleading this effort.

For almost a god damn year every day you were here on these forums trying to convince everyone to demand that GGG change the looting system to permanent/options. Why? To SAVE the multiplayer public games! What was that mantra? “Path of exile is a single player game for me” because of people who hate the way the game was made with “loot tension”. Well you got your wish! And NOW you want GGG to actually make it a single player game?! Wow.

For many of us, WHO DID PLAY MULTIPLAYER DAILY AND LOVED IT now we must play this PA setting 99% of the time because everyone else uses it. I swear this game already feels much more like a single player game because of it, as not sharing loot is isolating half the game.

You want an environment where trading does not lead to an advantage over players who just find their own stuff and actually play? This place already exists, but you ignore it! You don’t play at the beginning of the new leagues before trading could be an advantage, you don’t play in the one week races where almost everyone plays self-found and uses orbs to craft.

The thing is, many people don’t trade ever (only traded 2 items in like a year myself) I would estimate that most people just trade occasionally, mostly to just get a special item or two they need and to sell off a few extra items they won’t use. Only a few people really get into this “flipping thing” to expand their wealth – and I’ll agree happily that this kind of behavior is not good for the game… but seriously? This is a crazy drastic response to make a self-found only league because of them.

Ultimately, all that wealth means nothing unless they use it, (and what exactly is there to spend it on?) PoE is not a zero sum economy, if someone has 100 mirrors in their stash, Who gives a shit? Those were never mirrors that you would have had anyway. This is not like the real life economy where billionaires (most but not all) really do affect negatively other people’s lives.

You will never find your justice Stryker, there will never be a place where everything is fair and equal for every kind of player. (without killing the game that is) But you just keep on asking for the game to cater to YOU, and I’ll PRAY too, that GGG will learn to TUNE OUT everyone selfishly asking for changes they personally want, and just keep making the game they set out to make and meet their own standards.
If finding and crafting stuff wasn't so tedious and boring I wouldn't ask for a SFL.

If a SFL existed I don't think I would play it exclusively just in conjunction with the current standard league.

Looting options still is the best way to go. The vast majority wanted it and got it.

People weren't selfish in complaining about similar issues in D3 and they aren't selfish in doing it here. As GGG has said at the very least it shines a light on issues with the game that they can attempt to improve without removing trading. I doubt that will ever happen but at least they are aware.

Actually I've never specifically asked for a single player SFL. All SFL really means is that you find your own loot and can't trade. Most of the SFL threads that I have been in have asked for multilayer to still be included. So your rant here doesn't even make much sense in relation to what I have been supporting.

I'll just re-iterate something:

I would prefer to play in a SFL even if it was exactly the same as current leagues, drop-wise. So no increased drops needed of anything.

The knowledge that the ladder is not a bought and RMT-ed farce, would be enough motivation to grind in such a league.

The idea of a self-found league is brilliant. People should be able to have the thrill of finding and crafting their own items rather than having to trade for everything. It would also be less effort to implement a self-found league than to 'fix' the trade system as is. All it takes is a new league with drop rate constants modified to make the game more balanced around self found.

+1 to SFL

Why even bump this? The devs noticed it and its a waste of space on the frontpage. Let it go. Besides, if there was a SFL only around 100 people would play in it from what i saw how many voted for it in the "we want a sfl - petition" thread. That thread reached around 20 or so pages and only a handful of people who actually wanted a sfl. Not to mention a SFL is wanted under the condition that drop rates would increase.

Play solo. Thats your SFL.

lol. Its funny that you really think that.

I still don't understand why there are people against this. Its not like a change that influence anybody who dont want to. It will be a separate league.
The dev itself a long time ago "promised" custom leagues (even an option to pay and create your own league with your ruleset). You can find a description of that on the Game->Leagues page.
I hope they talk about this in the next patch announcement but i have little faith since the focus seems to be PvP oriented.
Even if i know that nobody here cares (I do) I want to say that I stopped playing a long time ago since hardcore is too punishing for me and standard is not enough challenging.
