Imagine being you, defending a guy crashing his business by being a terrible businessman. The stats don't lie.

well you're right about stats not lying. this was among PoE's top 3 launches so clearly something is working. People on these forums sounding like WoW players lol

what's the point of that if more than half of those people leave after the first two week
^

It's worse than that even.

I mean it's clear that there is interest in the game, and the genre.

How embarrassing it must be, to be getting a response that is actually pretty good, only to have those people be turned off so completely, so quickly.

GGG makes no money on people like this. In fact the server costs to accommodate large launches, and if the league (or core game) sucks, it's a brutal financial impact.

Not to mention morale/ ego. What message does it send? Many folks are interested in your game, but when they actually play it, the majority (more than 50%), leave dissatisfied without being monetized.

I think Chris was right to be panicked about the metrics (even if he is part of the problem)

It feels odd to me that there is no response to the player drop, or criticism leveled at Scourge.

Even if they decide they like scourge, or that the criticism is invalid, it is oddly silent.

Maybe they are having internal disagreements.

What statement can they feasibly make? Playerbase isn't really making statements, just up and leaving. Making a statement here just vindicates the players that quit while alerting everyone else still here that there are problems.

And they can't really do that, not after sitting smug after the harvest manifesto, not after vindicating all the streamers and people complaining on reddit about the "whiners who don't like the changes".

Charan, if you're out there, I was wrong about not reading and monitoring these forums for schadenfreude. It's quite satisfying. Only I had to be a bit poetic and finish the last time I pick up this game by making the very build I started this game with.

Apologies, what was the context of that? I don't recall encouraging anyone to use these fora for schadenfreude but I think we see plenty of it anyway. I've outgrown it myself -- pity is far from 'happiness at the misfortune of others'. And that pity I reserve for those who aren't enjoying the game but still play it. For those still enjoying it, rock on. I imagine relatively few of them engage with this community at all.

https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
The league mechanic is essentially backtracking the entire map, with the proven formula of showering players with loot to compensate for the "gameplay" experience.
The new uniques which look interesting are unobtainable for an average player.
The new skills are tailored for group play with a majority of the playerbase playing solo.

These numbers are no surprise.

Add there many awful map layonts are stays. And..
Many good maps we love just got throwed away in scourge.

No wonder such a result.

In truth, you didn't, but the early posts of your thread chronicling the streamer privilege did have such a tone. Though, yours was from a moral standpoint in that GGG broke several principles in taking those actions, the tone of your posts implied a certain need for justice on these faults.

In fact, the tone of your early posts in that thread was so readily apparent to me that I replied along those lines of schadenfreude being bad, as GGG faced large community backlash for the streamer queue skip. Now, perhaps I made an error in interpreting the reason behind your words, but the post still stands, and I do note that you seem to have bumped the thread several months after the fact.

And, while you may have ample commentary on things like this, I have commentary on gameplay itself, being led by the disastrous philosophy of Chris' "vision". So harmful is it, that while many people have overlooked the issue of the streamer queue, the real consequences in gameplay has seen heavy declines in playerbase retention, so much so that Chris had to go on a press tour of many streamers after 3.15.

And to sum it up, Chris is as divorced from the playerbase as he is to his own employees. He's already made his millions selling the game to tencent, but if the game goes under, it's his employees that would have to suffer the brunt of that consequence. And I don't think he's willing to part with the millions he made to continue to pay salary for a game that wouldn't make it. But, perhaps I'm making a mistake on interpreting his character.

In any case, I don't want the game to fail. I want them to get kicked in the keester hard enough to course correct.

This thread is complaining, and not even high-quality “let’s fix it” complaining. Come on, give me juice!

Hyperbole is the argument of people who wish to hide the truth. Nobody in the long time of this game has said it was dying except in both Beastiary and Synthesis which experienced sharp dropoffs in counts and negative player sentiment. But even those leagues had the sentiment of being "one-off" abberations that GGG could recover from.

Nobody you say? You must not visit Forum very often. WHoever lurks GD at least once every few days knows that we had "The PoE is dead!" thread in literally every league that came out since like... 2014
if you have to backtrack for scourge, learn how to path a map and use your brain while trigger the mechanic :3
