It was ultimately good for everybody. The hardcore had uber-deep delve and t19 100% delirium maps. Everybody could harvest-craft their gear up, and with the upper levels of good gear being maven elevated/awakened gear, more people could get cheap gear from trade if they chose to.

It's a shame they made a bad business decision and forged ahead ignoring all the negative feedback from the harvest manifesto.

good old times =(

Yep.
But.
Let em face their music.
Deliberately, if they are chose to be not listening.

We have more fun games to play now. And even more new ones incoming.
Anybody else look at steam charts over the last 5+ years and be reminded of sick sinus syndrome?

I'm surprised there was no announcement of any special event like endless Delve, considering the bigger than usual downward trajectory.
Be it purely by tripleG or a collaboration of streamers & third party sites.
I dont want to believe they kissed this league goodbye already (after 3 weeks / last major league patch) and moved on but it will be the case imo if no news ,in regards of special events, in the next 2 weeks.

Hmm, in 3 weeks we are now below expedition league numbers after 1 month, even though expedition started with 40k less people on steam.

(For all the white knights this will offend, this number is a simple statistic, it is a black and white number, I am not skewering GGG or PoE, it is simply a fact. Take from it what you will.)

I can think of a couple of reasons why there's nothing announced.

Usually such special events are held right at the end of a league, in the last couple of weeks. Believe it or not we're just under 4 weeks into the league, so another 6 weeks before a special event would usually be launched.

The next league if I recall correctly is intended to have a significant end game rework so there's probably a lot of resources tied up in that. That would make it harder to divert assets to work on something last minute.

Here's the big one though. Often you drop a special event to draw back players that had finished with the league but enjoyed the game enough to revisit it briefly, or to engage new players before a big league launch so they're primed ready to go on day 1.

Now a special event could easily ignore the league mechanic (like endless Delve) but we obviously have a retention problem with the game right now. Is that issue because of the league mechanic, which has some major problems, or is it because of the recently changed game state which would still endure in something like endless Delve?

If we assume the latter, and if GGG are considering this too, then a special event would merely reinforce to players their unsatisfactory experience and possibly result in deterring them from what is supposed to be the big league. After two underperforming leagues, I don't think that's something GGG want to risk.

It's also quite possible that resources are being used to analyse the player engagement and retention (and revenue) of the last two leagues and using that information to reassess plans for game direction.

That would require the developers to consider that player experience is more important than their vision.

No attack on them, but I believe they have stated the opposite. Chris Wilson politely, politically phrased it as "We would rather have a game we are proud of than high player counts"

Which is the exact same as saying "We want to follow our own 'vision', not follow what players want in the game".

(For the white knights, this is not attacking GGG. If I built a game company, I might feel I had every right to follow whatever I wanted to do, in any way I wanted, rather than do what players found fun. I am not exaggerating.)

No, why would you want that? Does that game really need people who vicariously watch instead of play?
Okay looks like triple G + Zizaran will host events in december.
I expected it a bit earlier but nonetheless we have it here now, to make this non-optimal league slide down the throat a bit smoother.

Well, my earlier post aged poorly didn't it? :)

Interesting move from GGG. It means that unofficially the Scourge league will have lasted 6 weeks. Yes, it will still be running alongside the 'events' but it's obvious that the league is pretty much done.

The smart thing for GGG to do would be to have one of the events be a 10 day void league and crank up the scourge outcomes to 11. Ditch all the bad outcomes and massively increase the RNG on the few good mods. Let's see what this puppy can do!

Obviously GGG are hoping for some quick engagement and no doubt some revenue too, but it'll be interesting to see if the players are ready to engage with the game for that last month.

True, they could even make scourging just act like double corrupt mod from the temple.

It still destroys stuff so there is plenty of risk, but when it goes well, it often goes REALLY well.

Also make all zones able to switched in and out of scourge with no timer.
