IMPORTANT: Everyone playing on Windows 7 or 8.1 immediately stop and upgrade to Windows 10.

Ah, I get it. It's easier to characterize people voicing them as tin-foil-hat morons accusing MS of trying to steal their soul than to actually acknowledge them as genuine concerns.

If that's your style, then who am I to stop you? Carry on.

Like....what concerns? The one that cuckoo pink elephants are posting on 4 chan?
Don't make a fool of yourself
The only ones not using windows 10 aare the ones who pirated the previous versions of windows, thus they were not able to upgrade ha ha ha

Moving on, I had commented that Thursday evening after the Win 10 upgrade I played patch 3.9.2c perfectly, then Friday morning the update patch 3.9.2d failed yet I was still able to play PoE with 3.9.2c no problems with mapping. Last night I figured it was a corrupted Content.ggpk file so I renamed it and let PoE download the entire file again. That worked ok but now when I go back to delete the old file I see this (stand alone client):

Content.ggpk       1/31/2020  20,698,064 KB
Content.ddpk.off   8/20/2013  27,850,215 KB

Over the years I ended up with a much larger GGPK file of more than 7 GB. That's pretty significant. Some of the bloat is probably all the game assets from challenge leagues that were unpopular and didn't go into the core but over 7 GB. Really GGG?

Didn't GGG release a utility to check and compact this file? Where is it found?
GGG didn't release a utility for that, but a user did and GGG gave it their approval. Can't be used with the Steam client though.

I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
windows 10 is pretty neat except it thinks it's ethical to mess with your settings without your permission.

i have to check my firewall rules once a week because it adds some randomly with updates.

i had to get rid of gamebarpresencewriter using fancy ways ~6 times by now ; it find a way to reinstall itself randomly after patches sometimes.

it installs apps i didnt ask for after some updates.

no matter what you do, xbox apps find their way back on the system eventually.

it's a nice operating system but it's unethical af when it comes to respecting user decisions.

i hope for an ethical windows one day but i think were past that now ;)

*also diablo3 never ran well ever since i got windows 10. random microstutters that are seemingly unfixable across 3 different systems by now. but this is a minor issue ; d3 isnt really a necessity.

Google it.

And/or learn to respect that people have differing standards regarding how much telemetry they will tolerate, or how much loss of control over their own OS they are willing to tolerate.

But you don't seem like the type of person who is capable of doing either of those things, KopaKabana.

Prove me wrong.

Exactly what I said before. People in here think they are fking alpha and omega and they are oh so important everyone will try to hack them and then use their oh so important informations for... I dont even know if there is use for your useless data.

You've missed the point.

Most people do have data that is worth going after. Personal identity information is very valuable. They can use it to commit fraud (credit cards, etc.) with decreased worry of getting in trouble as an example.

It depends on what they are trying to steal and do with that information. If they were trying to steal your financial information, and you have a balance of $-3.30 then that is not very useful and they would move on.

It is foolish to think that you need to be special to be a target. You don't.

Checks date closely. 2020. LOL.
Deliver pain exquisite
It is strange to be arguing over whether the average person is more or less likely to be hacked on Windows 10 verses 7. The fact that the average person has nothing on their computer of any value to a hacker is also irrelevant in this thread. All I was doing was explaining to the Windows 7 PoE players that if you are suffering from stuttering in zones/maps with large mob packs, usually rare maps and Alva temple runs but I've had this problem going back several years now (Nexus memory runs and Legion encounters were awful), that the problem could be that PoE just doesn't play well on Windows 7. I wasn't expecting to open up the can of worms on Windows security.

Anyway, I could have and should have upgraded years ago to Windows 10 Pro and saved myself years of PoE playing frustration. That's all history now so it doesn't matter (can't go back in time and redo it). Moving forward I'm finally happy that PoE is playing much smoother. Windows 10 (latest 1909 edition) is doing a fantastic job of load balancing the PoE game code threads across my 8 core cpu which has raised my PoE quality of play dramatically. I'm running smoothly on my new 8 core cpu and am not going back to my 4 core E5-1620 v2 to see if Windows 10 still plays smooth so someone else will need to post if PoE + Windows 10 + a 4 core 8 thread cpu works well or not. I'm not doing any more cpu swapping and testing anymore. I've pushed my Dell T3610 to it's limits and PoE finally runs stutter free (at least where I'm currently at in yellow and red maps) so I'm done experimenting for now.

I still have to play over the always poor Networklayer Internet fiber from my home in SW Florida to the Dallas PoE realm so I'm stuck with Predictive mode of netsync. Lockstep always DCs me out too often to use it. Forget about the WDC realm if your link is routed through the Atlanta NAP. The Networklayer routing from Atlanta to WDC is garbage and even though the PoE login screen says WDC is a few ms lower the times of high latency (upwards of 1 second) are frequent making that realm unusable.

Thankfully Predictive mode netsync isn't bad at all to use. I suffered (as everyone did) through the PoE:Desync Years editions until Lockstep came out and today's Predictive mode is way better than the pre-lockstep netcode. I do get rubber-banded back sometimes but it has been infrequent and not a play breaker the way the old PoE was (it's a wonder we didn't all quit back then). I don't suffer disconnects using Predictive mode netsync so it works for me.

Have a good day exiles.  :)

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.
