Looks like a lot of players don't want to play tower defence.

Playing last night and most of the towns were pretty empty compared to Legion League. Let's see where this weekend stat's are at:

Average already below 20K and only a couple weeks into the league. Comparing to first month of other leagues (yes I know we don't have a full month of numbers yet so this is skewed by end of Legion League so I'll need to check back on October 6th) it's clear that a combination of not liking tower defense plus other new games to play is killing interest in this league. That means when another arpg with a great story and butter smooth QoP comes along eventually GGG is going to be in a bad way.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Story? I think most ARPG players are looking for depth, itemization and customization - 3 subjects Diablo 3 failed horribly on. A new ARPG can be smooth as hell and good looking as hell, but if it doesn't nail the depth, customization and itemization, players will be coming back to PoE after a short while.

If a new game nails those three subjects, PoE will be in trouble.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
I would play the shit out of this league with the mechanics and skill changes.

If it wasn't for the fact that I am playing another online PC videogame which (according to some on this forum) has absolutely no player base collusion with PoE even though they are both grindy RPGs.

At least, Pohx is playing builds somewhat similar to what I would have liked to do.
If this league copied a few more tropes of actual TD games, like grindy permanent upgrades to tower types and the like, it would be super addictive.

Missed opportunity, I suppose. It (usually) works fine as it is, at least. I just don't feel like it adds much to the base game. A bit boring, to be blunt. I hope they beef it up if they add it to the core game.

For permanent upgrades to be a thing, the encounters would have to be WAY longer. Hell, I can hardly get a tower to level 4 before the encounter is over. I guess it's different in blighted maps, but I think they are fun as hell as they are.

And if the encounters were to be longer, the clear-speed mob would raise havoc in here. "Actually engage with game mechanics instead of zoomzoom? HAH!"

You collect defence fragments on maps and you do tower defence and build your base in hideout MODE this way)

Legion end month peak less than all other leagues

Legion confirmed worst league to date????? Betrayal confirmed best league ever???

Thats the message I get from this.

Lol what a conclusion.

Its obvious that Blight was ill-conceived, from a performance and replayability standard. Coupled with the minion buffs, the resultive stress in put on processing was disastrous.

I do think this may turn out to be one of GGG's worst leagues from a technical and player retention standpoint.

It's bad. Really bad. I'm glad I sat this one out. I hope there are some significant lessons learned for 3.9 and eventually 4.0 as the stakes just get higher with D4 looming...

tower defense was a questionable choice.

ppl who play tower defenses are usually the ones who can't/won't engage deeply enough into the main game.

who plays starcraft customs or any customs in any game at all? that's right ppl chilling , not wanting to mentally invest in the real game.

idk how it couldve been well received tbh.

Maybe its time to stop copying principles from other games and come up with your own :)

*that being said its not even a good tower defense!
no waves, no pauses to upgrade, bad performances... no TD.
Tower defense was the real game in starcraft.

Yes! Idk how many hours I sunk into Squad TD but it was the shit! TD in poe is not very compelling but what is compelling is the amount of extra shit I get to kill and get loot for. I really thought I would hate this league but it's quite the opposite.

Spoiler
Only crashed once all league on a laptop btw.
