SSF > Trade Leagues
Guess intentionally gimping yourself and having dead drops is a huge turn on for some people.

SSF is too boring for me. You can't party up, you are basically playing a singleplayer game at this point.
If you are a player that wants to sell items but hardly buys anything, you will play trade league. And I don't consider SSF players as better players than myself. GGG should have never added SSF variants for all leagues. Makes some think they are somehow superior. The concept of "fun" is hard to grasp for someone. Hint: It's 100% subjective.
I've played SSF for years, long before there was an SSF league. The main point for me? Buying someone else's progress/luck just don't feel right. Doing things yourself just feel SO much more rewarding - for a lot of people. I don't have enough time on my hands these days to play SSF. My ambitions just don't fit in SSF when you don't have enough time. Sadly. I'll be back someday. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Jul 30, 2019, 1:54:04 PM

SSF isn't some superiority complex. but obviously that exists. it exists everywhere, including people that play trade over SSF. of course the HC vs SC is a big thing too.
most of the time, people that express their opinion about SSF and how its "the way to play the game" are more trying to share their positive experience to people that don't, but those people sometimes take offense i guess? and just take it the wrong way. having recently made the swap to SSF i can now absolutely state its the way i should be playing the game. this comment sums it up well " playing SSF has a much higher sense of progression. you actually have to get stuck in t5 maps, not because you can't get maps but because your gear sucks and you're waiting to grind out that set of div cards, or get a good drop, or w/e because of this slower progression its more of a time sink, which in turn draws out the league. IMO this is a good thing. you don't just grind t2 glaciers for 3 days and buy everything you want, have fun with that gear for a week then quit. is SSF for everyone? doubt it. i certainly know its for me, now that i've experienced it. and because i've gotten so much positive experience and joy from it im excited to encourage others to experience the same thing. it isn't about pushing your views or opinions on others - thinking that way is very negative, like everyone is just trying to change you or w/e. thats ridiculous. people get too pissed off at the 'action' that they don't even realize the real problem is their 'reaction'. there is nothing wrong with someone encouraging you to play SSF, or to try being vegan, but the way you react is the real make or break. " Of course this is not ok, what the hell. If someone "encourages me" to do something I feel completely free in describing in vivid detail why I don't want to do it. Fair is far. |

" They were or statements, not and. Some are even contradicting. Your pick is even inspired from real events, had a buddy that started playing PoE at the same time with me back in 2012 that got kind of left behind by the meta, he got frustrated and tried SSF one year ago because quote "it seems like the purest type of play". He liked it so much that he quit the game for good, sigh. Of course he has a stressful job and family so I totally got him. " of course this is not ok? so someone watches a good show on netflix its totally not okay for them to encourage you to watch it? hey, its fine if you don't want to watch it, or play ssf, or try to eat vegan, but you don't need to be a dick about it. thats my point. say no thanks and move on, don't get pissed about them even suggesting it to you as though they don't have a right to. do you have a right to vividly detail why you don't want to do it? sure, but in this scenario, you're the dick. |

I also don't understand the "Playing SSF is gimping your character" mentality.
I've done every challenging boss (outside of stupid Aul because he never shows up for me) in SSF. My builds are fairly competitive and I would argue many of my SSF characters outpace 98% of the trade league characters using similar skills. I can say the whole "gimping" thing is objectively false. The only exception to this is if you are making a build that requires a specific unique. The recent release of skills has, however, made it so that the whole "required gear" thing really doesn't exist anymore. CoC Discharge is the one exception I run into because of the item requirements. You can build ES without going Shavs now... it's not mandatory. You can build RF without Kaom's... I mean the list is endless. I feel like the people saying you are "gimping yourself" truly don't understand the power that the recent crafting changes has brought to POE. Most end game GG gear is crafted again... not some drop-only unique you have to pray you get in SSF. Times have changed my friend. :) |

" I do believe that given the same amount of playtime your build will be outpaced vastly by people who buy leveling gear, swap maps and play efficiently. Who are you trying to kid good luck catching a league like betrayal or I dunno abyss where the map drops or lack thereof were subject of endless reddit tears of people unable to get out of yellow maps.
