SSF > Trade Leagues
There are many reasons why (it's more challenging; it frees you from trading; it makes you craft; the list could go on...) but what it comes down to is this: SSF is superior to Trade Leagues.

There are many reasons why SSF can be more challenging.
However, there are not enough opportunities to challenge yourself. Playing SSF means spending far too many hours grinding mindlessly content that is much easier than what you could interact with in trade league using gear that is beyond your reach without trade. Next time im going to play in trade league. I prefer boring gearing process rather than wasting time on running empty maps, barely being able to encounter any real challenge at all. In trade league you don't farm starforge because it's much more efficient to buy it. In ssf you don't farm starforge because you lack maps to run for shaper sets. In trade league you don't farm divination cards because there is no point in wasting time for 1c unique item. In ssf you don't farm divination cards because cost of shaping atlas is so high you are more likely to find this unique item as random drop. Sadly what could have been a game mode that enforces on you creativity turned into nothing more than content lock. In ssf you don't do something because you can't. You don't do it because you lack whatever currency you need (maps, fragments, sulphite etc.) Last edited by karoollll2534#2874 on Aug 7, 2019, 1:38:52 PM

Ok, I tried SSF for the first time in this League (after doing two level 92's in regular Legion). I have played since 2013.
I enjoyed much of the experience but mostly only because Legion league loot and cyclone OP. If you are only doing one character in a League you should not do SSF. Thus won't be terribly disappointed in getting drops that your build will not use. I do not play standard - if you do then this is not applicable and I would recommend it without reservation. My opinion & to summarize this whole "debate".
Others may viewed SSF as superior because it's challenging, others viewed it as just restricting & not superior. ![]() "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a truth. Everything we see is a perspective not the truth." "A game IS supposed to waste your time but it's not supposed to make you FEEL like you're wasting your time:
It's supposed to make you WANT to waste your time." |

" I agree that none of those characterizations hit the mark for SSF players I know (nor myself, for that matter). Does that make me a liar? The SSF playstyle has its own appeal, and the trading playstyle has its own appeal, and everything in between has its own appeal. Different people find different things fun. Imagine that! I do find it interesting to read about what others find fun and why, especially if I don't personally find it fun. This goes wider than just PoE, by the way: Some people really, really enjoy grand strategy, and I've never been able to see the appeal. Others enjoy team sport video games (baseball, football, basketball, etc.), and I don't. Back in D2 games, trading was a really big part of my fun, and now I won't touch it with a 10-foot stick. But (in my case) this isn't because trading in PoE sucks; I wouldn't even know, as I've never bothered trying. I think it speaks more to how the game is robust enough to accommodate SSF playstyles in ways D2 was not. And GGG is definitely worthy of praise in that regard. (I do have other reasons for embracing SSF that relate to poor balance decisions on the part of GGG and the relative impact that has had on the economy, but that's a discussion for another thread.) Wash your hands, Exile!
