Here’s an early look at the Slayer Ascendancy in Path of Exile: Legion!

Could anyone at GGG confirm something about the 8% base crit node:

Will additive modifiers to base crit work? My assumption is that no, they become part of the new base value, and thus the value is always set to 8%. However, there are counter arguments that the true base is only the value listed on the weapon. All the additive modifiers still get summed up with the 8% base provided by the Slayer ascendancy.

So, if you socket your attack in an Elder chest with "attacks have +X% to critical strike chance," will the base still be 8%, or is that added on top?

Thanks!
If Mark or Bex could give clarification on:

Overwhelm (no grey note on explanation)
"Base Critical Strike Chance for Attack with Weapon is 8%"

Does this make all weapon type 8% before applying weapon's Critical Strike Chance mod, and able to make the weapon base crit even higher?

example, Terminus Est
Tiger Sword base crit% = 5%
Terminus with weapon mod boosted it to (7.50%~8.75%)

Now, if slayer holds Terminus Est with Overwhelm
does it make Tiger Sword base 8% first, then weapon mod and result:
Critical Chance 12%~14% (8% * 1.5~1.75 weapon mod)

thats a good question. cause it is possible that it hard caps it at 8% under all situations. the base crit that is

I suspect it may be like Inquisitor "Ignore elemental resistances" and Veil of the Night "Elemental Resistances are Zero" - it literally sets base crit chance at 8% and doesn't allow anything else to affect that, meaning only "x% increased/reduced/more/less critical strike chance" will multiply. Make it only good for Starforge, really, but still a strong use case.

This is what I suspect as well. It would make it strong for literally any 5% critical strike chance base weapon that is well rolled. In such a case, it's just 60% more critical strike chance. It opens you up to put more damage mods onto the weapon that just increase base damage (or have a chance to deal double damage, increase base attack speed, add crit multi, etc.).

Slayer is no longer physical specialist. "Cannot take Reflected Physical Damage" should be moved to Gladiator.

That's actually a really good call-out. Berzerker still has his minor nodes as 'attack physical damage' although the rage mechanic is %increased attack damage. Slayer went generic, he should lose his reflect privileges.

ya my presumption was it would be fixed at 8%, so you wouldnt get any use from something like a crit strikes gem. Which is pretty crazy for sure, if it gives u a free gem slot then its worth whatever that gem is, we look at "40% more damage, 10% more damage taken" on berserker... ok, well maybe you take this node and it allows u to skip crit strikes and get damage on full life for 49% more damage and we got an enemy crit reduction and a crit multi buff on the same node? no downside? ok...

potentially crazy powerful.

Good job GGG. Good job.
This sentiment was summed up by a member of our design team who recently said "We don't want to take away the feeling of closing your eyes and Exalting an item, scared to see whether you ruined it or not."
