I already hinted at that point via 'rewrite a few lines'.
It's not a major amount of lines in-game to be changed.

Izary could simply guard something else at each stage as well. First Stage = Ascendancy, Second = Chests, Third = Enchantment.

Here, still we got the 'tests' and this time even no lore-change! Just reward allocation.
Oh right, you need to add a new line for the reward-chests and enchantment specifically, that's all.


this sounds like u just wanna get rid of traps. is that the main issue there?

The lab story line has nothing to do with the rest of the game. If what you're asserting is that 2 ascendancy points is the same thing as being an emperor, then that's just nonsense. Your statement doesn't make sense. If the ascendancy shrine is removed, no other change would be required. Or not even that, if another alternative was added for ascendancy points then they could just leave the ascendancy shrine and make it available elsewhere as an alternative.

you write as if its that simple but there are many things to consider. like if added/removed them how the players would react or how it would affect the game/skill balance.

My proposal to make it 3 consecutive Izaro battles (with hallways of undead Labyrinth builders sealed in with it's construction so they never spilled the secrets of the traps - mainly as fodder to refill flasks between battles, like Abberath)... would keep the Labyrinth LORE in place.

We still fight Izaro to gain Ascendancy, and the Goddess is still strapped to his back judging our worthiness or whatever), just over thousands of years, we (or some NPC who wants to be paid some currency) found a back door that didn't require messing with traps. We'd get no keys and no enchants out of it, but Ascendancy, yep.

There ya go.

You can only guess-work how the player-base would react. The overall reaction via the experience I got in-game from talking to people, also via the Forum, and via outside sources talking about the game... I personally think it would be a positive reaction towards such a change.

And no... no there's literally nothing big to consider about it. A reward for finding the trials, a reward for beating lab. No issue there, as simple as it comes.
GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease.
Everything fixed but still broken.

So then PoE would still be 3 acts repeated 3 times. Labyrinth story line made far more sense then. So, GGG could never touch that because of player reaction.

You would neither add/remove nor change anything relevant to the story.

Nearly every part of PoE has a story-background, hence you wouldn't change barely anything.

Why are you here besides telling other people to not recommend it? GGG WILL add new parts and GGG also WILL change specific parts of the game if they become too 'outdated'. Chris mentioned it several times that every game-mechanic is able to be changed if so needed.

Hence you got no leverage here, what you subjectively like isn't the matter with what objectively makes good or bad mechanics. Lore has to be adjusted around mechanics, not the other way around.

that alone strengthens my position on this type of not that well thought, rushed threads with useless ideas.
you dont have to change everything you find bad in a game. clearly there are people find it pretty solid and fitting to the game.
i will always stand my ground on topics i wouldnt wanna see changed in PoE.
you dismiss my opinions simply because you are dead focus on a change. thats your mistake. there shouldnt be any changes to the lab and thats for the better. those are my final thoughts and i dont see them changing anytime soon.
