Well to me, regardless of the atmosphere the game will provide, the story provides a ton of atmosphere to the world by itself, and I know that that's going to be good.
I just feel like the story isn't getting sufficiently supported. As I said in my initial reply to Firefly, I LOVE Diablo lore, but that lore needs to be supported by an immersive world of darkness and horror. Like I said in my edit to my last post, D3 really doesn't have an excuse for not being the most intensely horrific PC game of our time given its subject matter and Mature rating. There shouldn't even be a contest between PoE and D3 in this regard let alone PoE coming out way ahead.

I'm sorry -- just because you can make a gaming blog and get into a beta *doesn't mean you're a bloody journalist*. I get tired of people asking me why I don't have a blog -- it's for precisely that reason. They almost inherently lack integrity, and most people just do it to see what free shit they can get.
Yeah, not really a good example or two there.
D3 will be a critical darling. Don't even begin to believe otherwise there. Lesser games than it have managed to be, after all, mostly coasting along on developer reputation and hype.
It will also be a commercial hit.
I don't think anyone here would argue against either point.
Where this leaves those of us who still won't or don't like the game is a very interesting position indeed, most easily named 'antiquated.' Like it or not, that's the way it is.
And isn't there some joy in the fact that the developers who cater to our antiquated tastes are called 'Grinding Gear Games' -- the very image evokes a sort of archaic mechanic, something essential to so many machines and yet absent from almost all modern electronics. Something...fundamental, hard-working, relentless, driven...and compared to the fickleness of silicone and circuitry, extremely reliable.
Sort of like a valve I guess, heh.

Sorry -- my thread, I'll be as grammar-anal as I want. Especially when I'm referring to what should be a step above a forum post or twitter entry: a blog should at least resemble some effort towards grammatical correctness. Too many blogs don't, which is exactly why I say they lack journalistic integrity.
But if indeed the aim of a blog is to deliver information quickly (in both real-time and reading-time), then yeah, grammar/spelling aren't quite as necessary.
...And if that's the case, we have absolute proof as to why blogs should be treated as somewhat lower on the food chain than, say, a proper, edited review from what most probably believe to be a publication already well and truly bought-off.
In short -- fuck online journalism; I miss my inch-thick EGM. Seriously!
Account sharing/boosting is a bannable offence. No ifs, ands, or buts. No exceptions. Not even for billionaires.

play heros with epic battles not a bunch of ugly beggars with a bunch of lackluster skills
Once again, polemic trolling aside, you have just described one of the key problems with the D3 atmosphere. In D1 you were not a superhero annihilating all who stood in your way with over the top abilities. You were a mortal adventurer come to rid your decimated village of a what was a superior and horrifying demonic foe. The beauty of PoE is recapturing that sense of scraping up from the bottom to face a superior enemy. D3, on the other hand, has turned each character into a demigod facing hordes of demons with spectacular abilities. Far too comic book for my tastes, especially for a Diablo game.

I agree with Nachash here, although I think he might be agreeing with me. Chicken and egg and all that.
At no point in the D3 beta did I feel even vaguely normal. Or even human.

I don't think you can compare blizzard with valve and have valve come out as the victor.

D3 hasn't. Read the personal lore of all the characters.
Besides that, gameplay wise, POE characters rape just as much face as D3 (or 2) characters do, so there really isn't much difference.

Oh lord yes. I was just playing word games. But Valve has given us some pretty nice things over time, as recently as Portal 2. I've been done with Blizzard since Wc3, honestly.

Well you should keep in mind that in diablo lore in general, humans are basically the most powerful beings in existence, so you should technically never feel like a real life 'human'.
