Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

All of this hating on D3 and/or PoE. Can't we just love both games? They are both amazing in some way or another.

^ This.

So yeah, saying Diablo 3 will be easy is like saying there were no goldfarmers in diablo 2. :-)

Tagek, you're right. D3 WILL have more builds. At end-game. Of that I have no doubt. I know this is well-trodden ground for both of us, but I want you to understand that I do see how it will be. That many skills, all those runes at your disposal...end-game D3 will be incredible.

And I know you, and millions aside, will love it.

Believe me when I say I envy you that. I think that's what people are also not quite grasping in all this. I'm not hating on D3, to speak colloquially; I'm hating on Blizzard for taking that desire to love D3 away from me. It could have been us both, Tagek. You know it could have. If only they'd bloody kept that original skill rune system.

But it won't be us. You get that awesome experience of playing-and-loving-Diablo and I do not.

Pure envy, dude.

One certainly can. I think a number of us discovered Path of Exile because of our disappointment with D3 though, and that disappointment gets expressed here. I don't quite know why people feel so strongly about defending that title, but then again I guess we are all Diablo fans of one kind or another and even the most disappointed of us wish things turned out differently.

After all the responses I still don't understand your gripe with not having the old system though.

Why? You say you want to plan out and make a build from the start.

The thing is, this is simply not possible with the old system. If you planned out a build for cleave with the crimson rune for example, that's all fine on paper.

In the game however, who says you'll actually find a crimson rune fast? Maybe you won't find a crimson rune until level 40, there goes your idea of 'having a certain build from the start'.

Pretty much right. I can say I was definitely looking forward to that awesome rune system like most, and of course, shot down:/

How can you say you don't like PoE because it is too easy? Diablo 3 is EXTREMELY easy, much easier than Path of Exile.

You're an idiot.
I dunno about Diablo III because I haven't played it, but PoE definitely has terrible difficulty scaling at the moment. I dunno which one of these will be harder but they both look pretty easy at the moment in the initial difficulties and PoE hardly stands out as far as difficulty goes.

As for skill variety, unless PoE drastically improves on the skill system, that's going to be an issue. The classes are highly homogenized atm and that didn't result in variety.

This. And I have this problem in PoE. Oh, you want to use Viper Strike? Too bad, it never drops. Bye-bye build. You don't play what you want, you play what you get. Isn't an inherently bad thing but the whole building idea is kinda meh here.

Well there aren't many people (on these forums) that actually put up good arguments against path of exile, I'm sure there would be plenty of people (perhaps including you and charan) who would try to defend the game then.

Oh, and to everyone appraising this thread (be it the OP -- what a rant!) or anything in it, you are the thanks. Thumbs-up and the like are nice, but give me a nice, meaty reply anyday. The worst thing, the absolute worst thing, you can tell a writer when reading his work is 'oh, it's nice.' That's a thumbs-up, right there.

But you're bothering to reply, to discuss, to disagree and to compromise.

It makes me very, very happy to see that.
