Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

A game shouldn't have to rely on mods to be good, that's why oblivion shits all over skyrim for me, just because I had better memories about that game.

i so much agree with this.

I myself am a player of 8 years Diablo2 (started off on Bnet dial up Asia1 Realm).

Sadly I got a beta key for Diablo3, and well in some ways I wish I had not. Soon after rolling toons through the boring 1st 35 mins of the act we could play I found nothing felt rewarding. Yay they allocated my skills / points / everything for me, What is there left to do ? Oh well keep killing......

D3, is exactly what blizzard are moving towards, just like the looming Pokemon patch for WOW, everything is being catered to the masses who do not like to think, nor be creative or have any challenge bestowed upon them.

For POE, I have a 65 Ranger who I love to bits and is very much like my bowazon from D2 days. Also my Summon spark witch - Oh how I love her.

And the possibilities of the passive skill tree is just mind boggling. Choice is what POE has given us, which most other game companies forget to provide these days.

All in all, I have found myself on POE over all other games for the last 8 weeks, even BF3 which I upgraded my computer for ($1500.00 NZD worth) and now just plotting away with my thirst for the perfect build, perfect prefix / suffix combinations.

For me this is what it is all about, the perfect build, (not please click here to unlearn all your choices) Make a choice and stick with it. The perfect stats, the perfect items, the random number generator for our items. All what D2 is and was for me can now be relived during POE.

Thanks to Chris and all the devs once again.
i've only been playing for a few hours now on the open weekend and i love this game so much

Welcome to PoE, and KUDOS for the awesome name! \m/
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.

I think what you're getting at near the end there is reward vs risk. Without any risk, how can there be any sensation of reward? This applies to a well-planned character build too. Also, you want to be unique. It's your build, not someone else's. You want it to be something you made, that you in a way own.

Also, I upgraded my PC for Guild Wars 2, but man am I enjoying Path of Exile at max settings! I don't play *all that much* (not like my d2 days, that's for sure) but when I do play it feels like time well spent, getting a few extra levels for my various characters. I can see this game lasting me a very, very long time.

Guild wars 2 will provide me with a different aspect of gaming, as I have played the beta and will be playing GW2 and POE, GW2 is the competitive PVP fix for me, as POE is the classic nice relaxing smash smash kill kill loot loot :D

100% with you.

Also, you've played the Gw2 beta?! Envy++++.

One thing I like about PoE is how you moved from Hardcore League to Default League when you die instead die forever. You got to keep your character intact, and that's enough for me to love it.
Yep, after 25 accounts signed up, one got accepted. The world pvp (100v100v100) is amazing. words can not describe. But such a different game to that of what POE is. So both have their place in my heart. I played gw1 for the 1st 3 expansions before giving it a break and playing wow lolz. But GW2 will be amazing just like POE is "D
I keep seeing these emergent d3 vs poe threads, and my desire to respond thoroughly is outweighed only by the fact that I already did, as did others. Here.

So this is a shameless bump of what I think is an incredible collection of perspectives and dialogues, from all sorts of angles...

Also, anyone else sort of curious just how much the highest tier of pre-purchase will be? If it means actually designing a unique item *that exists in the game rather than just on the character* I am digging deep, really deep.

I've seen Brian's very formidable item-poetry and want to give it a good run for its money. ;)
