Torchlight 1 was with no multiplayer, thats why it was not balanced, not becouse of no pvp.

Torchlight, as you said yourself, was a great game. It was in development less than a year (9-11 months, depending on whom you ask).
Diablo III has been in development for about ten years (and has been scrapped once or twice entirely, iirc) and from my PoV has not substantially more to show for it.


Though that wasn't my point at all. My point simply was: Blizzard took too long, and others capitalized on it. Well done to them.

To make it fun. If witchdoctor was as horrible in pve as necromancer was in d2 it would be attrocious. (the game has a much greater focus on co-op this time around)
They can't just say 'fuck it'. Also, pvp will be in a few months afterwards, or eventually anyway. So saying it's pve only makes no sense.

Just the response I was expecting. And it certainly is true. But does "balancing classes so they're all viable in Coop-PvE" justify that much more of a development time?

Making a good game does. You can't just compare 2 games and say 'well this one was fun, so every other game in the genre can be done in the same amount of time'.

Precisely. Runic didn't need to demonstrate to Blizzard, or anyone else, that making a good game doesn't have to take forever. We all know that. But that doesn't mean that making the game Blizzard wanted to make can take some arbitrarily short amount of time.

I'm just going to vent my frustration here: I'm annoyed that your collective behaviour moved this thread to the off-topic, where it now resides next to word-games, discussions of MMA and other rather non-PoEish topics. Admittedly, it looks like the mods swept through General and brushed a string of poE/D3 dopics into this board, but there are certainly quite a few more popping up. Are they all to be moved here eventually?

And here's why I'm frustrated: now I have *two* boards to monitor, as well as all the others to glance at for updates. I liked it when General Discussion was my home community and this thread was like my home within that community, where I could welcome newcomers and have agreeable disagreements with my neighbours.

Not that long ago, someone copied my entire original post word-for-word and pasted it into a very pro-D3 board, where it was promptly torn to pieces. It wasn't fun.

No worries dude , thats a standard procedure for me when i quote a text from some source. I know how it feels to get your own work however small or big it is partially stolen so ye no worries ;)
