Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

Why did you move this topic to the 'off topic' board, yet at the same time ask people to remain on-topic? Do you plan on moving it back to the general discussion board if people regain focus?
This topic should be moved here when it was created in the first place.

Um no, the topic was why Charn chose PoE over D3 so no it was related to PoE. It got off topic and more about D3 then PoE and thus it was moved here.

And to on-topic something: I'm now in the totally enviable position of being stuck at the login screen of Diablo III. Unsurprisingly, the servers broke down and there's no ETA (or anything) on when they might come up again.

And two things became apparent. GGG has way better customer support (even though they technically don't have much) than Blizzard.
When GGG's servers had a hiccup (I think they did once on public access, if that), not a minute had passed and I knew why it had happened and that they'd be up in a minute.

Secondly: At least the music in Diablo III's login screen is completely forgettable. Actually, it's really grating after a few minutes.

Rather them have issues and deal with them now in any fashion then have it happen post release. It IS beta, and with many many more people then the poe beta supports.

...So any info on grim dawn from anyone short of their kind of incomplete website and donation page?

i was playing fine, and GGG's servers probably had the 1/5 at least, in traffic less from D3.

True, there were far less players in PoE's Open phase than there are now in D3.

But then, GGG has 18 people all in all. Blizzard features (after laying off 600 employees) still over 3,500 staff.

They have much better means of dealing with "surprises" like that outage. Plus, they could at least have put some short news in their ingame-newsfeed (like GGG did) saying that "Login atm is completely swamped. We're working on resolving the issue. Please log in via "Americas" and cross your fingers. We're working as fast as we can, but no ETA on when situation stabilizes".

That took 10 seconds to write.

Or they could have edited their posting on the official website. "Open Beta now open, but expect login failures as the servers are completely swamped!"

But the only news you get is when you follow Bashiok's twitter page...

edit: Heh. Just as I tabbed back into Diablo III, they had finally managed to update their newsfeed. After two hours. They're capping connectivity. Jay, queues are unheard of in the blizzardverse.

I'd say that would be more around 1/50th, or more.

so, as this topic is now in offtopic, i feel safe to finally respond here, after watching most of it grow from page one.

Intentinally i wanted to write "well written, very similar to my thoughts......", but somehow felt that the members in this thread aren´t actually interested in a not natively englishwritten diskussion.

We all choose to not like games for different reasons, call it taste.
Mine actually to the most part is the combination of Art.
If you combine this paintery or comic grafik with an skelleton king that is laughing like a 6 year old kid Sound-Artwise, it just visuallices a picture of Mona Lisa with an Clown-face in my brain. Similar to like "i will not play a asianised game anymore"( graphically like Lineage,...).
That opinion established very early, best to say when they released the sorcress-trailer.

But the main question that still hovers within me, did they ever promise that diablo-veterans (that played D1 and D2) will enjoy Diablo3 ?
I havent followed every of their pressreleases, but im curious if they did? I bet No.
Leaving me with "why should i buy a game where i´m not their targeted audience".
