Every time you add a golem you lose massive dps by having one less flame that has all the gems connected to it. And you also give up a gem slot somewhere to make room for that weaker golem. The way dmg scales, 5 flame 1 lightning is the most efficient. Second would be 6 flame.

And I encourage people to stay away from using empower in the six link. You're giving up considerable dps in exchange for added golem life which is only meaningful if you are trying to survive only three specific pieces of game content that are not efficient to run anyway. It's more efficient to be more efficient in literally everything else.

When fighting the Guradians/Shaper (40% res) lvl 21 Fire Penetration (also quite expensive) has an advantage of 13% more damage over lvl 4 Empower. Against map bosses with 30% fire resistance the margin is much smaller and against everything else Empower is the clear winner.

With lvl 4 Empower the Golems have 33% more life which also affects regeneration. If you want to push the golem life even further have a Minion Life Support gem handy (at the expense of Controlled Destruction Support)... with 30+k HP even Minotaur will have a hard time smashing them.

So, ideally, you want both lvl 4 Empower and lvl 21 Fire Penetration and swap the gems as required... if you can afford it. ;)

If the choice is between Fire Penetration and Empower then go with Fire Penetration, it's cheaper and gets the job done. TBH, staying alive while fighting Minotaur is not arcane science, resummon Golems when they get nuked.

Such an amazing build, I sold all my valuable items on other characters to get all the 12 jewels, and never look back again. Aim to complete 125 maps with this build (not sure about Hall of Grandmasters), now sitting at 118/126, with MF GEARS all the way (dies a lot ofc XD

However...

the Chimera boss seems problematic, when he casts smoke and disappears (I assume), my golems just stand there and nothing happens forever (ofc I am laying on the ground). It seems that I have to move myself to specific zones to trigger the next event, so Chimera will come out again and fight. I cannot afk here. His bleeding flicker strike kills me fast, so I ran out of portals. Actually I have used 2 portals stupidly before the boss fight, so before the next try I want to know if I could do this in 6 portals, and is there a better way to handle this boss with less deaths?

Oh believe me this build can do EVERYTHING.
I cant see your characters so i can give u some simple advices to complete EVERYTHING.
Go for double defensive curse setup with blasphemy temp chains enfeeble if you are dying a lot. That should help.
Get es shield, es gloves, chayula amulet, death's door boots for hard situations and check my previous posts for how to deal with all.
Its very simple but requires experience and understanding when to do what.
Yes in some situations your golems will die but you need to be ready for that situations and resummon your golems.

For chimera quick tips:
Dont die that should be ur 1st goal.
2nd dont use ur flasks untill the smoke phase.
3rd keep ur vaal skills up if you dont have get all 3 discipline grace and haste. They should help at smoke phase.
be sure you always have EE on him.
U can check my flasks for which one to use. before you look i do have 3 defensive 1 silver and 1 quicksilver. They should help.

Better advice about chimera: sell the damn thing and buy a phoenix or hydra map. That advice applies to minotaur too.They are just annoying and better to sell than run it. But if you get better at it u wont fail at all.

Grandmaster hall is no hard thing for us. I usually be able to service it at least to 2 or at worst 1 people.
First thing you do there go to first hall from left and look if you got block guy. If you have him get a new one.
Wear hard boss gear here and go 5 flame golems. They may die ur goal is not to die if your golems die retreat and resummon and go back. Double defensive curse shines here. I doubt that other setups can complete it.

Ok about uber atziri:
U might wanna switch to some es gear shield and chayula amulet to deal with stuns untill you get to fight.
Skip the monsters between small bosses we will be turning back and killing them with MF gear.
Now vaals are easy just throw ur ball lightnings care for their ball lightnings or zaps run around let ur golems do their job. Worst case scenario u die once stay on the ground let ur golems handle them get up go for trio.

Now this is the a little bit tricky. I strongly suggest anyone playing this build to buy a death's door to deal with this phase and any other hard places u might die off bleed. Like uber lab - vaal temple - shaper wolven king- lair map - etc etc.If you dont have it try to get some bleed flasks up and use them wisely.
Keep ur 1 curse or if u use anger keep it out leave some mana to resummon ur golems.
We are in the fight running around the room sending some ball lightnings around.
If the cycloner is left last ; try to avoid the damage might come at u, let ur golems handle monsters. Use convocation any time u can if ur golems are dead just summon them stay calm dodge some skills btw try not to enter other toxic areas where you ll end up dead. This fight might take long just remember we need 1 portal to come back in for last atziri fight. try not to waste too many portals.
If the angry double strike guy left do the same but he is not that good at killing your golems but he is good at killing you so run away much as u can try to do the same things if you go down wait for all of ur golems too. they should be able to take his hp down for some time.
At last fight i strongly suggest you to go 5 flame 1 lightning golems and be sure before you die you wear all your mf gear and 2nd clayshaper if you got the shield before.
The place you die is important. You can not die in the middle of the room. U ll die exactly where one of atziri's splitted phases stay. And die there let your golems do the work while you chill on the ground. This place is important for ur golems to focus on most of the time 1 splitted atziri and stay splitted to take her spears separately.Only danger in this phase is spears take ur golems if they dont have the damage to tank it. But they should be fine as long as they kill phases fast as possible.
If you are doing a service ; be sure to let ur client not to be afk and be ready to join inside with ur command. Let them know u ll call them when the last split phase is over so there will be a little time for them to get inside to get challange. If you let them in at the beginning of the fight there is a chance ur golems might not be able to tank her spears and die out.

empower > fire pen once you curse with with Ele weakness, flamamability and EE at all mob variants (shaper, normal boss, normal mobs)
larger difference at normal mobs, minimal differences at shaper

Empower can give base damage increase and hp increase once added.
But clear speed is visibly dropping once you switch to empower.
Its up to player in the end.
Cost of empower lvl 4.:7ex or more
Cost of 20 20 fire pen:10-20c

Fire pen has more clear speed. Would likely to have faster boss kill.Since we dont need to be alive and curse bosses to kill them; Empower is quite useless and a bad investment in my opinion.
Again its entirely up to player which to use i would not suggest empower as vglance said.

But you'll need to stay alive to curse them. :)

21/20 Flammability and Elemental Weakness will reduce the resistance of a boss by 36% (90% reduced resistance minus 60% effectiveness vs bosses)

My calculations did not take the curses into consideration... for obvious reasons, why stay alive when can relax while being dead? ;)

Here are some results based on average base damage (according to Wiki) with lvl 21 Flame Golem, lvl 21 Fire Penetration, lvl 4 Empower gems and a +1 chest:

vs shaper/guardians (40% res) = 1175
vs others (30% res) = 1371

----------------------------------------------

lvl 22 Flame Golem = 1323 (+ lvl 22 Fire Penetration = 1839 vs non-resistant monsters)

vs shaper/guardians (40% res) = 1310
vs others (30% res) = 1442


(note: 20% quality on Fire Penetration yields 10% "increased" fire damage so the damage should be slightly higher even but not by 10% as this is additive to other "increased" damage modifiers from tree and gear which apply to both equations... but you get the picture)

Bottom line: In theory Empower makes for better clear speed because we kill mobs "quicker" but in reality damage vs non-resistant mobs is of very little importance with this build. On the other hand, we kill bosses a bit faster with Fire Penetration, however, if we're dead and can't re-summon Golems when they die from massive physical damage or degeneration then Empower (and maybe Minion Life Support) should do the trick... at the expense of a slightly longer fight. So both Empower and Fire Penetration are viable choices.

It's obviously going to be fixed so I'm playing without dying to preparation.

If anyone has any suggestions for improving clear speed or any gem suggestions, let me know.

Primarily trying to play 1 handed with mouse buttons for flasks, map overlay, inventory, and Q.

You can do some improvements on ur flasks.
Quartz flask instead of topaz flask
Magic silver flask instead of Kiara's.(in my opinion kiara's is quite useless.. the reason is it only lasts 3 seconds while magic silver flask can give 8 seconds of onslaught with almost same effects. Kiara's is not sustainable and only gives stun immunity which we dont need while mapping. You can check my profile for which options to use on flasks. like duration bleed etc.)
2nd clayshaper is always better unless u are doing hard boss fights. I am not saying sell it but get 2nd clayshaper is great.
Controlled destructions is way better than conc effect. Not all golem spells are aoe.
