"No it isn't, because the distance between a No True Scotsman fallacy and a non-fallacy is the word "should." This converts a rejection of the specific vis-a-vis the general as a statement of fact, into the rejection of the specific as a statement of opinion. "No true Scotsman would ever commit such a crime" is fallacy; "no true Scotsman should ever commit such a crime," isn't. "Mature democracies do not start wars" is fallacy; "mature democracies should not start wars," isn't. Of course, just because they're no longer fallacies doesn't mean you can't disagree with them - you can - but then you contrasting your "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts" with others, opinions versus opinions. Now, if I had said "this video isn't even an ARPG," then I'd be in No True Scotsman territory. But I didn't. I recognize that the concept of the ARPG is not as sterling and unblemished as I might hope, and that the gameplay I disapprove of happens. That thoughtless facetank spam style is what some people think ARPGs are (and they're partially correct) and should be (it emphatically shouldn't). I imagine it would be fair criticism to point out that I'm inviting the fallacy with my titular question. So point taken there. But There. New title. Since this thread got bumped and I feel like I was a little mean to Ziggy in the OP, here's what an action RPG actually should look like.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" Really? What does that have to do with player skill? The izaro fight is a pure gear barrier, nothing more. You either have enough health to not get oneshot or you dont. Even the Aziri fight has more player skill involved. Heck, the act two boss has more player skill involved. |

Admittedly, there probably is some gear-check there, but still: when he messes up he goes from near-full to scary-low. That's good gameplay.
