Is this what an action RPG should look like?

No, this isn't a Labyrinth QQ thread. Far from it.

Check out this video.
ZiggyD showing off Zerphi's Last Breath

"I like that you actually have to think about using this as well," quoth the Ziggy. But obviously he didn't have to think about where he's standing, or even which direction he's aiming. Seriously, check out the moment where Dominus is right it front of him and he completely misses with Spark.

This is what some of you people think this game is. What ARPGs are. Stand anywhere, spam skill, facetank all the things, bodies hit the floor around you. The items which let you achieve this are the good items; the skills which let you achieve this are the good skills.

This mentality is a cancer upon action role-playing games.

Why is there so much Labyrinth QQ? This is why: Positioning matters, and no amount of spam will ever kill a trap. The path is not linear but requires navigation. The boss requires you to actually pay attention and do specific things during the fight, or he comes back stronger.

The Labyrinth is the most anti-spam, anti-facetank, pro-positioning, pro-thinking content GGG has ever released. So Spam Nation despises it.

Good.

I hope you all you one-handed Netflix-watching beverage holders never get your Ascendancy points. And to those who play PoE with both hands primed and full attention, I salute you; your enchantments are well earned.

Good day, sirs.

I went back to complete the normal lab in PHC at level 50 (after killing Cruel Kaom/Daresso), let Izaro get all his buffs, and almost ripped in the third fight.

lmao I get what you're saying OP, the lab requires precise play, but it's also just overtuned AF imo
I don't know who you are preaching too since people just overlevel the labs and walk through them.

Such skill at not doing content at appropriate levels.

Also "one-handed Netflix-watching beverage holders" wouldn't be playing this game anyway since it naturally wards them off ;V

Whenever I see a thread about RPGs, I open it expecting to see video of a Rocket Propelled Grenade blowing something up. So disappointed.

Good point. Merc Lab should level with you.

Obviously not, given the video evidence in the OP.

Not saying Ziggy is all bad, but he clearly wasn't actually paying attention in-game during that footage. And still roflstomped an Act Boss. Which means: you can, too.

Watching ziggydonker videos is where you went wrong.

You can rolfstomp anything in an ARPG that is based off gear/builds/stats.

There implies large amounts of in-game/mechanical/reactions skill to play something like this, this game requires large amount of thinking/theory crafting/decision making/ect. It's all in-depth critical thinking skills and the ability to grasp large amount of abstract concepts and apply them together. It's a game that you can watch 20 hours of videos to "finally get how to play it."

Which is the complete opposite of "one-handed Netflix-watching beverage holders" would be playing. They would be playing call of duty or something, which ironically would require more mechanical skill (aiming, twitch reaction, map knowledge) then PoE. This is a game where you would refine in-game play over and over with many multiple hours played.

PoE doesn't apply the latter type of gameplay very well, and the lab is a poor attempt at that.

He also had just been using video footage and talking over it, things that are done in two separate takes

He was paying attention when he was doing it in game, but he wasn't guaranteed to be 100% since dominus is a cakewalk with most spam builds anyway

Which I get was the point, there was no need to position besides "don't get hit by the stream".. but there was editing in the video nonetheless

Beyond all that, PoE was the first ARPG I'd ever played, and.. I still think that positioning is handy even when I'm dropping 100,000 dps and things instantly blow up 90% of the time. I was actually excited for this expansion, and I love how labyrinth requires you to actually use timing and positioning to not get destroyed (something I loved about older boss fights in WoW raids back in the day). I still love to spam and facetank though.
PoE should cater to both mindset. What you call cancer, is what makes GGG the most money.

+1 Good post. It took me a few days to get the hang of being patient. I like fighting Izaro at his strongest though. It's a bit more challenging but he drops more treasure keys. Reward for the risk.
