Is this what an action RPG should look like?

Really? What does that have to do with player skill? The izaro fight is a pure gear barrier, nothing more. You either have enough health to not get oneshot or you dont. Even the Aziri fight has more player skill involved. Heck, the act two boss has more player skill involved.

Almost any boss can be trivialized with gear, the question is if there is counterplay to their moves if one goes undergeared, and for Izaro the answer is yes. The existence of a gear check doesn't negate the existence of a skill check.

How? If you cant tank his cleave or sunder, you cant beat the boss. Period.

If you can tank them, you might as well stay right next to izaro and only dodge the other big telegraphed attacks. Thats the level of player skill involvement here, Voll from dried lake with some aditional ranged damaging moves.

You can avoid both. The cleave in particular has a windup animation. Move in circles around Izaro.

Even if you can tank one hit, many hits could hit you, so unless you are grossly overgeared, I wouldn't recommend it.

You also have to manage the traps in the arena.

So I disagree.

PS: Izaro is not Voll. You have to consider the Goddess and the extra mechanics thrown in the battle.

In video, times Ziggy hit by sunder is zero, by cleave looks like twice, three times tops. It's a long fight with numerous cleaves avoided. All the cleaves were avoidable; check video and you'll see.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I have done Izaro on 4 different characters, and i have yet to die to him (though i did rip in map content). Sure, you get a temporary scare after your health goes down to 20% from a big hit, but they are not successive. There is no need for you to tank many heavy hits, just one every 10 or so seconds.

As i said, the fight is a gear check. Able to tank that big hit every 5-10 seconds? You'll be fine.

Lets put it this way, i am an incredibly average gamer, i die to stupid things all the time and izaro isnt one of them. He does big scary hits and there is a lot going on in that fight, but its a trick to make the fight seem harder than it actually is.

In my opinion, the Izaro fight is a completely out of place (and scale, boy is he overtuned for the zone level, healthsponge much?) gearcheck. Its mechanics (portal thing, elements, traps etc.) are incredibly melee unfriendly and much of the fight is very luck based (ie. get ported in a cluster of traps after a hit? instant lights out). But skill? I dont see how that factors in.

I've done the fight as melee, I've seen how to counter a lot of the stuff, you can refill flasks easily with an AOE skill, a single target and a movement skill help a lot. I disagree about the melee unfriendly part, except maybe a few variants of the extra mechanics. The attacks are all telegraphed. It's not luck based, you can do better, specially if rushing undergeared and underleveled.
