SET FREE THE ASCENDANCY POINTS (or rework the lab) [New ascension methods/lab rework ideas]

Since we can time travel now that means that everything goes (parallel universes, different timelines, aliens invading... anything goes) and that there is at least one timeline where the labyrinth didn't have traps.

I wonder what the "it doesn't fit the lore" guys would say about this.
But i don't see them complaining about time travel and how stupid that makes the lore and that means they'll agree with anything as long as it comes from GGG aka white knights.
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

And I guess that would make you a black knight then. Good, we're all "coloured in" so now we can continue our discussions.

The lore for lab is already immersion-breaking in how ridiculous it is. I suppose it could be made worse, at least in theory, but I can't currently think of how.

If someone wants to defend the indefensible, then the "Who cares about lore, this game is all about loot" response is always available. Or, one can try to change the subject by going ad homenim on a poster pointing out when the lore makes no sense.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

You're still throwing numbers around like that? Meaningless. Here's why:

1. This thread is years old, literally. What makes you think anything on the first 100s of pages of this thread is still relevant today? Don't kid yourself.

Pointing out that the thread is years old as if the age of the thread is somehow a problem reverses cause and effect.

The origin of the thread lies in the ongoing non-resolution of problems with ascendancy. Those problems have been somewhat mitigated, but not really fixed because making boring content shorter doesn't fix the fact that it's boring. The silliness of tying character progression in an ARPG to a platform mini-game hasn't changed just because the experience is shorter, either. And, the lore makes even less sense after 3.0 than it did when lab was first introduced.

I disagree.

If Lab was a problem at all, this problem would have been brought to the surface, picked apart and either fixed or removed. Bestiary league is proof that despite serious effort being put into content, GGG WILL get rid of it if we speak up and say we don't like it.

Lab is still here, despite years of a small part of the community being highly outspoken against it. Like you said, we've even seen acknowledgement from GGG by making it shorter and more accessible, but honestly I think that's as far as it will go. There is too much gold to be had at the end of this rainbow to make it any shorter or easier to clear. And if you don't like traps, well, do maps instead for profit. It's not like PoE has a lack of content to throw at you.

I'm not trying to silence you, but your point has been made a thousand times over. We got you after the first time.

Removing Bestiary removed a handful of crafting options from the game, perhaps only on a temporary basis. Removing lab would remove ascendancies, which would be a far bigger deal to players and to game balance. You're not picking a good example when you pick the willingness of GGG to drop Bestiary as indirect evidence that lab is generally well liked.

And, repeatedly referencing "few" doesn't make the widely reported lack of enjoyment with lab any less widely reported. For a better picture of how players feel about lab, go back to the dev manifesto about lab and look over the proportion of favorable versus unfavorable responses. The ratio is telling and heavily skewed against people saying they enjoy lab. Heck, a higher percentage of players mentioned they find Bestiary enjoyable in the "Bestiary is being removed" manifesto than ever mentioned finding lab enjoyable in the most recent dev manifesto about lab.

Nobody can know the percentage of players who actually enjoy lab versus those who put up with it. But, the readily available evidence would suggest that you've got your "few" and "many" mixed up, when it comes to who enjoys lab and who doesn't.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

What bestiary and labyrinth brought to light is that, even though GGG can make a hell of an arpg game, they are pretty bad at platfomers and capturing monster games. They should leave mario and pokemon out of PoE. Pokemon is being removed, why is mario still here?

Not sure why but your post tickled my funny bone and I had to rest from laughing so hard. Thanks!
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!
I've never been a lab-hater and enjoy it if the layout is good on a given day. But I do have some major issues with it:

1. Why can't the layout just be better more often so that we don't have to keep waiting 24 hours for a cleaner run? Why is this game designed around skipping so much content and just waiting for rolls to be better? Many players just wait until a good day to run lab anyway, so the overall difficulty experience wouldn't be changed for us. Yes, I recognize I'm being extremely vague about what a "good" lab run is, and think another conversation would need to be had among the community about that - I guess examples off of the top of my head would be less need for diversion off of the path and less/shorter clusters of traps (this does vary day-by-day).

2. Why do traps so heavily penalize certain builds over others? % phys damage reduction (but not from armour), high regen, and fast movespeed make traps barely noticeable, while evasion/leech characters (or characters who have high armour but little other % phys reduction) get screwed. I'm also annoyed that items like Abyssus, which have a penalty that can be mitigated with good armour, fortify, etc. against mobs totally destroy you when worn while doing traps. It's just a strangely uneven treatment of builds by a mechanic that seems designed as an equalizer of sorts. I suppose I could extend that last criticism to Izaro, too.

For me, the major benefit of running lab after attaining ascendancy points is enchants. Unfortunately, while enchants are really useful for every single character, not every character type has a good experience in lab. I guess players are supposed to design a lab-devoted character who runs for everyone else on the account? Idk, seems clunky.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

That's where trading comes into play, another core part of the game. If you can't farm Lab, that means you're good at something else, so farm that and buy the enchants you need.
