Trial of bad game play, get through most of the bad game play then die to a leap slam seconds before Izaro dies so that you can go through the horrible uber labyrinth all over again. What is personally being tested here is my ability to loath and hate the piece of shit that is known as labyrinth but still continue to play PoE because the rest of PoE is so good.

I'm sorry to hear this.

At first I thought "At least this is an ARPG death, and not a Mario / Frogger death." Then I remembered that you have to run through the mario / frogger stuff again to get to the ARPG bits and pieces with Izaro.

I had my own "moment" in cruel lab with a 3.0 character, as after I killed Izaro the third time I made a beeline straight to the altar to get Ascendancy points, just in case of a disconnect.

I got to the altar, clicked to get the points, seemed to be right on the verge, and then my screen went black. I needed a hard computer reboot. I powered up, logged back in, and to my surprise the ascendancy points were available and ready to be allocated.

I lost the key and the enchant. But, I was fine with that. All I really cared about was that I didn't need to re-run that annoying piece of shit again, for that same character.

It does create a quandary for me as well, though, as I've had fun with POE in 3.0 outside of the time spent in lab.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

Well, good for you that you're so strong and clever to keep playing. Don't let a small, optional part of the game and some badly written posts on forums keep you from playing the game you like. I know I won't! :)
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

:-)

I will secretly agree with you that the uber labyrinth is optional. At least from the point of view that I played PoE for a long time without ever stepping foot into it until today. BTW, I never claimed to be strong or clever.

I'll just close this post with one of those badly written sentences here on the forum that you refer to. Labyrinth is loathsome piece of shit content that besmirches and insults GGG's good name.

Just a small update, was lurking in the reddit and saw this. Thats the reddit thread that has the link to this review.

In short what i wanted to actually talk about is the pros cons plus some things mentioned about the lab.

"
STRENGTHS
Character Customization
Replayability
End-game Mapping

WEAKNESSES
Complexity
Labyrinth Requirements
Penalties
(first things you see on the review)

The Labyrinth is still one of the most controversial and hated features of the game, shown by this ever-growing thread of more than 700 pages (link to this very thread). While Normal and Cruel labyrinth has been simplified with 3.0 (which is a good thing, and also shows GGG acknowledges the lab is a problem), Merciless is still quite difficult and Eternal (previously Uber) is nearly impossible for the overwhelming majority. Forcing players to dodge traps and solve puzzles while engaging in a very difficult boss fight where you cannot die in order to secure character progression is just bad design.

In the end, every player that I have known to “quit” PoE (either a character or the game) has done so either due to the death penalty or the labyrinth, or both. (from another review).

If its not a hustle read both reviews and the reddit thread. People are praising how good the review is overall, he analyzes and explains everything he writes. For example about complexity being a negative he explains that the lack of information on many things is what makes poe seem impossible for many to figure out.

In the end, what matters is for GGG to get the message, and from the recent changes they seem to have. All that remains now is to take the right steps.

I would be so happy if I never had to ever step into the labyrinth ever again. It's just not in the theme of the game and it's always tedious, forced content that reduces my willingness to try new builds. I hate the lab with passion. I don't care how good uber lab drops are. I Don't ever want to step into the lab. Ever.

I think only 2 of my chars managed to do Ubar. Maybe it has been designed only for really good players.

I am not one of them. Don't like labs unfortunately.
