Just going to flat out say it: The art assets in this game are not up to quality
The shadow has the evil smirk going on. Hes got a more personality in his face than most the characters combined : P Models and stuff will continue to be tweaked over time .

Reminds me of this.
I think the art for PoE isn't the most readable (as noted, Dota 2 is excellent for this) but it fits with the overall aesthetic. |

The problem I see with armors is not related to the actual look of the armor. Of course scraps look great and fit the game, but my problem is that none of the armors actually changes the shape of the body. The marauder is wearing a chunk of metal strapped on his chest, but neither the shape of the body of his motion changes because of that. There are some pretty big shoulderpads, but somehow the overall shape of the character does not change. Compare the marauders wearing any armor with the lone druid screenshot and you can see the problem. If you'd remove that shoulder tree bark from the lone druid, his shape would change completely. There's nothing like that going on in PoE.

" My 2 cents on this shot the legs and feet look terrible. That's actually more of a modelling issue than textures. That said I somewhat disagree, I think the all character models have some amount of personality. I think what they lack is a little more caricature. Like they could lose the realism just a little bit in order to approach the concept art. ie. exagerate just a little bit their features, without going all cartoony. |

You don't like the images?
They aren't pretty enough for your superior critics? You want... a wider colour palette? Huh, sonny boy? What a pity you don't have them. Why don't you go play something else and stop bothering with your flawed and empty arguments? You seem desperate to show off skills and knowledge you don't even think you possess. I don't think the game and the community will miss one bitter player. | |
" Please no! No cartoony shit in PoE. I hate that, every fucking game has these ugly artstyles. I hate WoW, I hate Warcraft, I hate Dota, I hate LoL, I Hate D3, I hate Torchlight All these games have these shitty western cartoonstyles. I hate western cartoons. Everything looks goofy and stupid. NO FUCK NO! |

Some of you might not like the style he is going for but you still have to admit that the ideas being it are sound advices. I think Russel understands that well so we're in good hands here.
My two personnal favorites are: broadening the color palettes and accentuating the difference between the walls and the floors. |

Yall need to stop trying to interpret what some of us are saying.....
No we don't agree with the OP, no we don't want a broader color pallet, the floors contrast plenty. Go look outside.....walk through a desert or forest, their isn't a clear line when you look at a rock wall coming up from the ground, it's all generally the same color. This is what makes real life look real. Cartoons and animations intentionally change the colors to make it easier to see, which in turn makes them look like....cartoons. Same with armor.....look at old armor, its made of wood and steel.....it isn't bright green and purple and colorful. It is armor, the exiles are wearing it to survive, why does it have to be brightly colored?? What are they doing, finding dyes and paints in there spare time so they look good for the black guard? They are finding scraps of metal and wood and using it to protect themselves. Or stealing armor from dead corpses. This isn't a gladiator ring where you get points for flair and plumage. The ONLY thing I agree with is the game could use more polygons.....but that is completely understandable considering budget and stress on my CP. So I'll deal with it. The colors are fine, the contrast is fine....I have never once tried to run up a wall because the colors blended too well. In fact, after reading your post, I logged in to play and disagree even more, the colors look fine. I see and understand the points your making.....I just disagree. And want the devs to know I disagree. leave the cartoony graphics to Torchlight.....please! Last edited by Litheum#7285 on Feb 16, 2013, 10:33:24 AM

Haha I knew OP would reference to D3, well, here goes your credibility :)
Art in PoE is closer to D1 and D2 than D3 and that's part of the charm. It's darker, not as colorful and contrast is rather low in general and that's what a lot of Diablo fans want. There's a reason why a lot people complained about the arts of D3. Tech guy

" I think the same, the advices given are good ones, accentuanting the difference between walls and floor would improve very much the overall look of the world. Also some changes to the armor models would bring a lot for the characters. The OP is not asking to make PoE cartoony, for the ones who are going crazy now, but the overal look of the game could be better, while still keeping the realistic look |
