PoE's performance is poor for a lot of people

I have issues too.

Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
AMD FX-8350 @4.00 GHz
8 GB Ram
Radeon HD 7970

Performance has improved a lot with the new Crimson driver - though in some situations my FPS still crashes. Especially some tilesets give me a lot of trouble (especially those with deep holes filled with mist)
CPU-4770k @4.4 under water
MOB-Asus Gryphon z87 latest bio's
GPU-GTX 780-Ti SLI under water
RAM-16gig DDR3 under water
HD1-250 850 EVO ssd
HD2-3Tb 64bit cache drive
PSU-Sunflower 1000W
OS -W10
MON-24inch Asus 1ms refresh monitor.
ISP-Virgin media broadband 160-180 down, 10 up

Get the odd stutter every now an then.

Latest Nvidia drivers cause graphical problems, rolled back get no graphical problems but still get the stuttering.

I have over 2k hours logged in POE as a point of reference.

Last night, upgraded my rig to quite the beast:

i5 4670k processor (liquid cooled)
GTX980 gfx card
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard
16 GB Ripjaws ram
one 120GB (SSD for my OS)
one 850 Samsung 250GB SSD (with only POE and Fallout 4)
750 Corsair RM Gold power supply

To test my new machine, I ran a Zana Jungle Valley Map with 4 additional exiles mod.

I tried to get my FPS to drop as low as possible with Firestorm Witch in the Jungle Valley boss room.

It dropped to roughly 30 to 40 FPS with over 200 monsters on screen in a relatively small area.

The map also had four additional exiles mod. I had FPS dip down to 30 to 40 when there were two exiles on the screen at once.

Something to do with how MTX are processed on exiles severely hurts performance. I expected FPS to dip in the boss room, but I was AMAZED at the FPS drop from the exiles.

As a benchmark, I ran the 3D Mark demo on Steam and my machine tested as a top end gaming machine, just under a 4k capable gaming machine. It tested as a rig better than 90% of all computers that run the demo.

I noticed some improvement recently, when testing on the good old potato.
nothing too dramatic, but GGG are doing something even though they have been suspiciously quiet about this.

they shouldn't be.
to me, optimization is as much a feature as any expansion on new MTX. it deserves some Chris or Bex announcement threads.

in any case, I'm playing more on the new Laptop and the office PC nowadays so finally solo isn't a torture and party is actually possible. no dischargers/Mjolners, but can co-op with the occasional summoner.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun

I´m going to join in here. Bought a new gaming laptop last year (i7-4710HQ, 8GB RAM, GTX860M 2GB) and could finally enjoy CoC and Mjölner discharge specs.

Now with 2.0 I am getting fps drops similar to those I frequently had on my old potato laptop.
Hammering on a boss with Mjölner discharge and a fellow Ice Crash player caused this, it also happens when there´s Vaal totems around or vs Necrovigil bloodline packs. It´s not very enjoyable when "frames per second" suddenly turns into "seconds per frame". Just should not happen on an up to date gaming rig.

+1. Almost the same experience I have. Additionally all kinds of ground effects just rip fps. It's also noticeable when you are coming near a shrine.

I can understand why 2 CoC party members could sometimes drop my fps to single-digit values, and I accept it. After all, CoC wasn't even a draft when they created their engine.
But stupid burning ground? Seriously, GGG?
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

Exactly my thoughts. We're in 2016. Some tiny flames causing so massive fps drops is just pathetic. Besides all that other stuff that comes on top of that. There is no other word to describe this. I have neither a NASA PC nor an absolute potato (i5 3450, AMD HD 7870, 8GB Ram, 64-bit Windows 7, SSD:Yes) and you can literally hit F1 and watch the frame drops even in TOWN while doing NOTHING. No casts, no mobs. Nothing. Just pain. It's like hickup and the engine simply wants to die. A friend of mine experiences this also and he has like a NASA PC, literally. This is not normal.
Ground Effects and - after switching to a non-corpse destroyer build, tons of corpses brings the performance down. my temp solution is spelltotem+zombie to get rid of the worst fps drops ;)

i really think its time to polish the engine and wait with new MTX etc.

I'll just say i agree. I can run better looking games at more stable framerates than POE.

I'd be fine without a new Act-Map-Gem-League if they just fix the engine first and improve existing (or non-existing that need to be added to improve the existing) things in the game, so that it can finally shine as it's supposed to. Might bring new players into the game.

GGG, finish Ascendancy or whatever you're doing and PLEASE go back a few steps and fix a lot of broken stuff in the game that people are complaining about for years. This is just one of those things.
