Translation Preview (FR, DE, PT)

spanish plz !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey,

as a german native speaker and player of many "fantasy" rpgs I need to add some thoughts!

There are 3 forms of adress in german.

First is "Du/Dir". It is used only to adress kids, people we know very well (e.g. family, friends) or within a certain group of interest (e.g. meating of people about playing soccer).

In a rpg it is used for:
- impolite troublemakers (e.g. You're in for the treat = Dir werd ichs zeigen)
- prostitutes mockin'
- family

Second is the polite verion "Sie/Ihnen". This one is used in all other cases of real life. At work, when you talk to people you dont know well or any radnom person.

In an rpg it is almost never used except for rpgs playing in the future or if the game wants to suggest the happening plays in our real world.

Third one is "Ihr/Euch". It is never used outside of historic books or fantasy worlds. But in there it is almost always used.
My suggestion for your translators is to almost always use this form, since evereything else simply sounds uncommon for german players. Not everybody will notice it at first, but the "Ihr" form will make it easier for people to get into the lore, since it is almost always used for games. It is possible though, to chose some characters in a game who dont use that form. I make an exemple: Lets figure a character who has almost lost his humanity (I guess we will find some of that kind in poe :D). This person can hardly speak and is in high rage. This person could shout "Ich werde dich zerstören" which means "I will destroy you". In this particular case that character almost only thinks about blood, so he wouln't care about the danger of fighting an exile. So in this case there is no respect.
So reasons for using "Du" might be:
- someone not fearing his opponent
- an npc who reckons an exile to be worthless or weak. (maybe before the player finished a certain quest which changes the npc's mind)
- drunk npc

I hope I could help you and please at least tell your translators to consider my thoughts. It would be so dissapointing to always read "Sie" or "Du" in this game.

Only some exemples where you will find the "Ihr/Euch" form:
- Baldurs Gate series and other games of that company (Icewind Dale...)
- Diablo series
- The Elder Scrolls series
- Anno series
- Neverwinter Nights
- Dragon Age
...

For this reason alone I wouldn't use the german translation. It's a real RPG immersion breaker.
I find it rather interesting how the amount of German speakers/posts far outweigh French and BR/PT ones.

Next targets should be IMO Spanish and Russian.
I'd be happy to help with any Spanish or Portuguese translation feedback in the future. :) Sadly, totally missed this thread until now.

I got 3 friends who are waiting the french translation to try the game simply because their english is really bad and having a game in english only is a serious problem to them. Even if it's the first foreign language we learn here, a lot of french people really suck at english because nothing encourage us to progress higher than high school level with not even a real immersion in an english speaking country.

According to that preview, the French translation seems pretty solid imo, won't add more than what has been said, just good job guys.
