St. ELMO's Fire (Dual Totem, Dual Curse, EE, Fire Trap Templar) NERFED :( RIP build

Finally got a 5L @ lvl 77 and using arc + totem + ee + casting + chain

Putting down both totems destroys my mana. I feel like I have mana problems sometimes...maybe I should just get some mana gear.

What you guy think will be the best between Spark/Arc/Nova?

it has been said couple times - arc beats spark and nova

2FireTaco - u can do that or invest point in Eldrich battery for more mana (+ i guess u have clarity aura right? :)..)

Finally got to the level where I can start using Spell Totem but effectiveness certainly isn't that great yet. Admittedly, at level 33 I don't necessarily need it to be that effective yet but I'm curious at what point playstyle begins to shape up into more of an end game rotation. Right now my issues:

* Mana - Never seem to have enough (don't have Clarity yet)
* Minions - Die very quickly (even with +life gem)
* Gear - Finding even 3L stuff is hard
* Bosses - I have to use Heavy Strike to kill them since DPS output of other spells is lacking

So, at what point do things start to shift? Keep grinding things out for awhile? Are there specific gems I should be using/trying to find? Any tips on finding the right gear without spending hours monitoring the trade channel and looking at every item posted?

It seems I run into a wall at about this point for all builds I've tried so far (Act3 normal into early cruel). Can't seem to get past the high 30's. Help me push through! :-)

Yeah I was thinking about heading to EB for mana my es is really nice too. Though I only have 3k life not sure if I want to get EB with just that much.

I do have clarity but maybe I'll just need to find a good mana ring.
yes ofc - items with mana/mana regen are GREAT since our skills costs a LOT of mana. we just need to get to higher levels to get "better gear" but i think we dont need hight tier gear to be effective
- atm i hit merciless and i melt white mobs in a seconds (fire trap lvl13)
-my dead guys have over 2000hp (x3),but they die too easy to boss or group of blue mobs but i keep spamming them so its not so bad
- i play with ony ONE fire trap :) i guess i need to find/trade at least one more (or ill do shadow and get trap from early Q´s in act1) - but again its not a big deal right now coz my 2 totems are killin stuff
- at lvl 55 i dont have good gear either: 1x4sok gear .. i play with what i find (i dont have iron will(but gem is lvl13+) added, etc) so i guess i will look for good gear with more sockets and ill be fine
- my current setup is: fire trap, curse-conductivity, spell totem-arc, zombies, molten shell in some cases ----> planing to add: 1-2 fire traps, tempest shield, some curse.
1800hp, ES only 120 :), all res 80 - sh**ty gear, not the best skill set, BUT im still alive ! :)

2azkinger: zombies are VERY VERY WEAK early so no point of using them - maybe from lvl50+
my advice-try to play more with groups-ive done act bosses with group-its safer, then when u get some lvls ahead of map, go back and farm solo, get some items and carry on. its like in Diablo3 HC, u have to be overgeared and overleveled in order to proceed to next level (be lvl35 to do lvl30 map - just an example).

I did not spec into dual trap until lvl 40+, but it still should be VERY effective was underleveled up until merciless ledge when I started to grind there to catch up level.

Minions - Die very quickly (even with +life gem)
I did not use minions until later either. Until after I got minion explode. That is when they become effective.

Gear - Finding even 3L stuff is hard
At lvl 33 I had all white items. You don't need links until end game anyways except for arc + spell totem.

* Bosses - I have to use Heavy Strike to kill them since DPS output of other spells is lacking
This is very strange. I did have 2 bear traps that I used in low levels but fire traps do so much damage i wish I just leveled the fire traps instead of using bear traps as well.

It seems I run into a wall at about this point for all builds I've tried so far (Act3 normal into early cruel). Can't seem to get past the high 30's. Help me push through! :-)

I'm not sure what to say here. Just have 2 firetraps, a raise zombie, dual totems, and your curse. I used mostly the same gear from about lvl 30-50. You know I did use firestorm, molten shell, enduring cry, and frost nova until lvl 40+. You can have weapons on switch to level additional gems.

I hope my noob questions do not make people mad.
I am level 20 using this build in act2. So far its been a lot of fun.
I do have questions on gems. It seems I never find what I need lol
I have 2 firetrap, flamestrike and frost strike and doing pretty good.
I do not understand why 2/3 of the time I can only use 1 trap.
I have them on W and E keys and it seems when I cast one the other also goes on cooldown.
I never did get rewards from brutus or merveil mainly because I just don't know what I need.
ANY thoughts or pointers are very welcome, what should I get?
I have zombies but I just don't use them, it seems that bam and they are gone.
I feel weak but I seem to always win, 2 uniques in act2 at the same time and I was sure I was dead, but no I did fine.
When do we start seeing support gems to get more damage, and at what level do we get totems?

of course I don't know anything about gear but I am learning.
Again Thanks for this guide this is fun.
WOW just found a Goldrim Battered Cap...first unique I have seen. Yep it dropped off the only mob that gives me trouble, gold rock golem. They don't do much damage but they sure take a lot.

Hi, just wanted to say I was highly intrigued by your build and the gameplay--it seemed like the thing I was looking for! I rolled with a witch instead but keeping with the same core idea with minor differences. Survivability starting off is a little on the lower side but I'm on softcore anyway.
Before starting, I ran a couple shadows through the beach and straight to hillock then camp for firetraps, easily done within a few minutes so I'm not sure why anyone would complain about the lack of firetraps. I just trash the shades there because I get clarity later on my witch anyway.
I've only hit level 30+ on act3 and so far I'm really enjoying it! Skills I went through leveling were different but I'm already making major out of those firetraps. I managed to get a spell totem gem early so I just started arc totem pewpewing, its dps is pathetic but I'm hoping to lay on some shock on before the mob mows it down. Handling pretty well solo for now but unique mobs, especially ranged, really give the hurt. Just made my way to the shield nodes so the resist increase is helping some. Zombies are gradually becoming less squishy at this point too, not sure if I should spec into MI yet.
That's all my input so far. Looking forward to the later levels with dual totems and EE. :)

I'm guessing both your W & E hotkeys are on the same firetrap skill if they share the same trap pool. Check to see if they're separate?

Reward for cruel merveil. You can refer to this http://blackrabbit2999.blogspot.com/2012/07/path-of-exile-quest-gem-reward-list.html
Sorry for all the confusion here. I guess starting monday I will begin making a video of a new templar soloing to level to 40 for all of you. It does not take me long and I will attemept to edit out boring parts and explain a bit more.

Thing is, you really don't use dual totems, zombies, and arc until around A2 cruel. Until then you use firestorm, molten shell, frost nova, firetraps, and bear traps to lock bosses in place. Each skill you choose must compliment the next.

I don't use zombies until I get minion explode.
I don't use duel totems until I spec into Elemental Equilibrium
I don't use 4 firetraps until I spec into Elemental Equilibrium
I'll do another run through and try to remember what I did leveling up.
I will work on a post showing where to get most gems from, but some gems you will just have to trade for. I got lucky and found a elemental weakness gem in cruel fellshrine.

I can't wait for the video.
That is going to be awesome.
New to the game and I can say its not DII.
In Diablo II you could just outlevel and area.
I dont' mean be a level 50 doing act1 normal.
but in Diablo if you are in an area about your level say a level 20.
its a struggle at 18, ok at 20 and a breeze at 22.
Here it doesn't matter your level its all gear and build.

Getting used to act 2 areas and the quest layout.

What I was saying about gems was when I did the Blackguard quest.
I see flammability, wrath both look good now, then I see Conductivity, and arc and all I can think of is lighting damage in the future. It makes it difficult to pcik one. So far I have only got what I think is good now, and the entire dungeon and the sin quest was a piece of cake at 22 when I swapped in some lightning resist rings :)
