St. ELMO's Fire (Dual Totem, Dual Curse, EE, Fire Trap Templar) NERFED :( RIP build
For the first time, I've started to play POE on April, 17th, 2013. Beginning with the typical classes (bowyer[14], witch[19] & maurauder[5]). A Dual-Class, like here the Templar, is a difficult class for a beginner - like me. So I looked out for a Templar-Build. After studying this passive-tree build with your videos (Act I & II) I'v tried to play my very first Templar.
It works! I've reached Act II at Level 17 - killing the Endboss of Act I on the first try - alone; 'cause my 3 Zombies died with a one hit kill! :) Now I am Level 23 an reached Fitness in the skill-tree. Shield Mastering will be the next aim. In the very first levels (Act I) I've used a wand, not a mace. The reason why: Attack speed! In Act II I've found 2 unique items (crown, shield) and had much luck by crafting a rare mace & chest. The Templar is now my favourite character. Some words to EE from an absolute beginner (noob): The idea behind an extra EE implementation sounds logical. For example: Freeze the mobs to let them die in fire, quickly. :) I've found a freeze trap and found out, that you must drop the "D-key" for detonation. You are using 4(!) fire traps, that's realy a hard job on the keyboard. Maybe a macro gaming mouse can help out against this "keyboard-blizzard". On the way to the End-Boss in Act I you will meet very often monsters with Elemental-Resist (f.e. fire, lightning, cold). And, although, they are resist, they died in fire and cold. Maybe the reason why was elemental damage, that I've had. Thanks very much for this wonderful guide. Best regards, Fallagar from Germany. |

Thanks for this post. I had a roughly lvl 35 dual totem templar and needed some help fleshing out what to use beyond the two totems (using spork myself, but leveling arc to possibly switch out)
The zombies + the fire traps are great additions. I am also running with a spectre, which might be redundant once the zombies level up high enough to tank. In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

Great! I am glad you guys are having much fun with this build. I don't play anymore. Real world schedule is packed. Garden, Work, Wife, Kid, House. I have recently developed a new sleep routine (Sleeping 10 hours every other day) which I just started so every once in a while if I run out of things to do in the middle of the night I can play.
I'll keep my eyes on this thread cause this was my favorite character. IGN: YeahCrit

Very nice build! It works perfectly.
Nice work YeahPete |

Is there an alternative skill to fire traps that can be used? I don't like traps that much, so I'd love to see if there is something that does that much dmg in simillar aoe :)

No with dual totems, you have to use traps, mines or summons Nothing else does damage. Firetrap also does the most damage out of spells and can be used offensively unlike mines which are thrown down at your characters feet. IGN: YeahCrit

Yo. Thanks for your contribution to the forums :D
I looked at your passive skill tree and just dont get it: Why no EB? Edit: Another thing - Is double cursing / permanent cursing really necessary? Stuff dies fast anyway. Edit: Your End game Build seems like suicide without Kaoms. Last edited by sintflut2012#1326 on May 5, 2013, 3:24:03 AM

I looked at your passive skill tree and just dont get it: Why no EB?
My reasoning: 1.) HP is more important 2.) Too many waisted points to get there 3.) I like having an ES buffer upon engagement of hard hitting enemies. Edit: Another thing - Is double cursing / permanent cursing really necessary? Stuff dies fast anyway. Yes. Things die fast but dual curses help a ton and they cast pretty much instantly. 1.) PVP - in pvp I would shoot for 3-4 curses. 2.) Blue and Unique Mobs 3.) Bosses 4.) Playing is groups monsters have huge hp Edit: Your End game Build seems like suicide without Kaoms. Maybe the dual crit dagger build. Definately not the shield build. IGN: YeahCrit

" Wow, nice detailed answer mate. I just looked closer at your endgame shield build, and have to say: EB is only 5 nodes away, you could then use less passives on mana, use the 2 4% aoe nodes to link to the tree, then use purity to not need all the resis passives at the maru tree. But then you lose the ES Buffer, which i guess is in your case quite considerable. After all i guess your build is solid. Game on mate! And yeah, being support with maybe 3 perma-curses (maybe use DD) would help the team immensely. |

this is my tree vs your level 74 tree... i picked up a few things to boost buffs and fire trap and aoe radius of curses as well i lose a little resistance but i can drop points out the buff tree if i need more resist and i pick 1 more point up in the shield tree to make up for the other missed shield mastery i dont feel EE is for me just because im going to be more support/aoe as i play with a friend who is a elemental bow build that can do more single target dps on bosses/blue/yellow enemies sorry i have no sentence structure i hope u can understand this let me know if you think this tree will not work out |
