ya the one thing I don't like is that if you wish to get rich or rich enough to buy gear, the last thing you should be doing is actually playing the game.

Some of you neophytes don't realize that some of us rich people got rich without using RMT. We can also play the game doing maps and TRADE at the same time... it's not hard at all. I come from MASTER LEAGUE level play on Starcraft 2, and that game requires way way way more multitasking than this game. It's super easy for me to do a map and trade at the same time...

People need to stop generalizing us rich people... some of us got to where we are LEGIT.

Wut? You're proud you can look at a PM, tell the person to wait a minute or instantly leave the map to make a trade? Not to mention, THIS is what gets you the moneizz??? :x

In all seriousness though, for anyone who wants to get rich- you wont have much fun in the beginning, it'll mean min-maxing everything and reading up on a lot of strategies on what to keep what to vendor what recipes are useful etc etc. All of this will ofc become a habit with time and if you play long enough you'll start accumulating currency at a faster and faster pace. But only if this behavior is coupled with constant influx of mediocre items to sell on the forums and an occasional lucky drop :3

Don't expect to be trying out new builds and all that until you got a solid base of wealth though and most importantly- don't expect to get the epic drops yourself, you'll most likely get disappointed. Most players wont ever see the top-tier drops for themselves.

However, if you find that you enjoy playing the game at a more casual pace there's plenty of room to try new build and do whatever you want while still having a shot at getting the mid-tier drops to fuel your new characters. But I strongly recommend looking up at least some recipes along with some tips and tricks to avoid wasting currency for nothing.

Cheers!

This would have something to do with the misplaced currency sink.

The sink is in content gating.

What tends to work well, as a sink, is binding and fluff/account features.
Well GGG said they will never bind and remain adamant that the free-trade model will work with modern communication. The fluff part is their bread and butter in MTs.

So an alternate was needed, hell why not gate content behind a currency sink?

I'll tell you why, because it doesn't sink currency from those not interested in content or aRPGing but rather in shopping simulation. While those who don't give a flying frig about economy or trading but want to slay beasties.. are stood looking at content gates that take anything but hardcore game-play to unlock.

So yes, the rich get richer because there is no sink for them, the poor get poorer because the sink affects them most even when they are the least in need of it.

Bluntly, stupid design is stupid.

I just spent 200 fuses on an item trying to 6L, I will spend maybe 1k more and my stash is freakin full of currency.

I dont flip items I even usually help the items flippers because I dont want to spend 1h trading and I sell my things damn cheap.

Getting rich in PoE takes either a love for flipping items and trading or time, thats all, if you dont want to spend time in the trade chat just dont, simple as that, if you have 10 items that are worth 10 chaos each sell them for 3 - 4 each and it will give you way more time to go kill monsters, at the end you will still have made a 30 - 40 chaos profit in a minimum of time spent trading. you could have gotten 100 for sure but while others are spamming the chat with their over evalued items you are back killing monsters and having fun.

I'd rather not buy or sell anything, thanks.

Then dont come here and complain about the economy and ask yourself why you are playing an online game that is centered around trading thanks.
See... in a free market economy, if the poor were able to become rich... the rich would be able to do the same too and become richer. In fact, they could hire 100 people and have them all do what ever it was and reap the profits of those 100 laborers. It's exactly the same in this game. The reason people are getting rich is that other people are willing to give them items of higher value for items of lower value (in terms of time spent).

The game is producing wealth at a rate proportional to the number of hours played. People find a way to concentrate that wealth by getting others to give them their "hours played" in exchange for an item. In order to make that wealth grow, the successful player will find a way to turn a fraction of that profit into a new item he can trade... either by crafting or by trading for it. The rich get richer because they can afford to invest in these items for trade.
The game is about having fun not about who is rich and who is not.

I do agree that "rich" players have much much more fun than "poor" players.
In my opinion thats the result of GGG design concept and until they modify it abit then nothing is goonna change about rich getin richer and poor getin poorer situation

PS There is never simple solution

I beg your pardon, of course, in a thread about the economy, in a forum, in a beta, of an aRPG, everyone should remain quiet unless the model, subject or anything else suits them.

Silly me.
Casually casual.
