Self-Found (League) [Thread outdated!]

OK, I gotta admit I shared your cynicism up until this thread. But Quarl has been pretty specific here. This thread and topic is of great interest to him. He wants to understand the issues we are perceiving. Those were almost verbatim his exact words. Man, I like some of the decisions this dev team has made and dislike others but I'm not prepared to call any of them bald-faced liars.

I would expect him to go quiet on this thread for a while. His entrance into it stirred the hornets pot and were I him (and presumably busy) I'd let it simmer for a few days. But man I'd certainly find the time in the next few days to read every single post. If I were a game developer and couldn't find an hour to read a thread about people leaving my game permanently... uh....
I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

So we really do care about things that cause players to quit and not return. So this thread is interesting to me. For example seeing people report Act 2 Merciless as an issue, as its not really an area where we have identified as being a problem.

boof is a very good player and in the 1 month race I was in the top 10 on the 2nd day playing solo 2h melee (different account), if people like us actually feel a problem there I don't really want to know what less masochist players think of it. Take that as you may.

Well, I really am interested in this wall. I have yet to get an idea of why it is an issue.

What precisely is the issue at this point? People do mention crafting a bit, so is it a linking issue, in which case the solution for the 40s area will also help here.

If it is a different issue, then what is it, and does it need a different solution.

The crafting issue is the drop rate of currency (/crafting) items. The theory in a self-found league is that GGG would be able to tweak drop rates for things like Chaos orbs without having to worry about affecting an economy.

This is somewhat related to linking but would not make that much of a difference. If I have outleveled my gloves by 20+ levels and do not find a new pair, I pick up a 4L white and use chaos orbs. It can take 10-20 chaos easily to make a halfway decent pair of gloves. If I had unlimited 4L white its would still cost half of that.

Since I am self-found, I have low IIQ/IIR. It takes me a massive amount of time to find 10-20 chaos orbs. I vendor almost everything but will sell something worth 15+ chaos. That is where almost all my crafting comes from. I do not like to trade. In a self-found league, the chaos rate could be adjusted so I would not have to rely on other players buying things from me in order to craft.

Since the dev response I'm following this thread, like, ten times on a daily basis. I'm just waiting for a "yes" "probably, let's wait October" "we have no plans" type of answer. Mind this: the answer will be decisive for me and many other people in uninstalling the game or not :\ And I guess for you too, though lol

Well, to Qarl's defense:

He already somewhat said "We have no plans on an SFL
but we see your problems and would like more actual feedback."

However it would not be the first time that GGG
decides otherwise, like mentioned some pages before. :)

I'd quit all other leagues and play self-found only if they made it.

The problem I got with an economy like this is selling stuff. Takes too much effort to track down the right buyers. Then it comes down to can I make more currency in the same amount of time I'm spending spamming trade channels trying to sell stuff for a few chaos orbs? This is simply how I look at things. If its not worth the time of me getting directly engaged in trying to sell then the said item is worthless.

I've started doing unID'd combo vendors for 2 chaos, because of my lack of confidence that I'll find any high value rare items worth 1ex or more. I'm looking at it simply from a numbers game here. More profit long term for me to just vendor unid'd rares than to ID and stash the ones worth a couple chaos or better and actively try to sell them, which in itself takes time. Time that could be spent farming and collecting more rares to combo vendor. Chances are simply better for me to farm than try to spam trade channels with a wall of junk for 2-3 chaos orbs each.

And for the record, I can make about 6 chaos per hour vendoring unid'd rares. And that isn't counting the other orbs I find, or the few that I ID and vendor for alts (mostly 1h weapons).

Why doesn't GGG have its own official search system? Most players don't use poe.xyz, or even know about it.

Meh... I'd rather just play in a damn league where I don't have to worry about any of this and can focus just on playing the game. I hate dealing with economies, because I hate bartering with people. I always feel like people are trying to lowball anything you're selling and highball anything you're buying. I say fuck everybody.
-removed, will create its own thread-
Have you made a cool build using The Coming Calamity? Let me know!

P.S. And original thread was about permanent SFL, not about short season "race". I want permanent SFL, and will support races only if they are experiments for final decision of permanent league.

I guess that would be GGGs best method of actually testing interest and external effects,
hence the suggestions.

They do likewise with cutthroat and I would be stunned
if they do a permanent cutthroat league before a 4-month one.

I will start changing my plans if lots of players are demanding something with this perseverance

See our problems? Want feedback? We already gave you tons of feedback. Now it's up to the devs decide if it's worth a new league or just some tweaks that will make many players leave

Hey. Hey you. Let's talk about Eternal Orbs.

The crafting system. You're going to spend your orbs on the best item you have. Not anything else. This is a catch-22: by trying to make the only item you care about better, you'll definitely make it worse many times over. Upgrade my 4L? You're insane. I have to grind those orbs out; I can't just trade for a few thousand that originally came off a bot.

I get pretty thoroughly the game has to be balanced around botting. (And that's why I'd like to be able to acquire armourer scraps to do the Alchemy recipe: most bots aren't going to acquire three of a kind armor pieces to get two lousy Alchemy Orbs. That's a waste of development time to implement. Generally only human beings would go out and use it.) But what we're talking about here. Is.

The old idea of having Jorbs and Forbs not screwing you over. The only reason they do so is to kick players in the groin. Some people do indeed love that sort of thing. They're deviants.

The most extreme thing would be to make Eternal Orbs as common as Chaos Orbs. But I harbor no illusions whatsoever of that possibility being in the same universe we're sitting in currently.
