Self-Found (League) [Thread outdated!]

The main problem with progression when playing self-found is in the 40s, more specifically act3 cruel. But it's not four links, I can play act1 merciless with no-link single target skill and 3 link-aoe. It's weapon damage progression.

For example I find these swords somewhere in normal:

They do the job in normal, kind of work in act1 cruel, barely finish act2 cruel and in act3 cruel it's just a stonewall. It is extremely unlikely to find an upgrade for them, because of the way you made % physical damage mods with very low chance to appear compared to the other mods. I am also forced to spend all my self-found alchs/chaoses at some point in hopes of an upgrade(let's say at cutlass swords) instead of saving them for late game gear.

This applies to all builds using bows, one handers, two handers that deal physical damage.

2 reasons why these leagues will be never created:

1. Microtransactions - no point to donate cash because noone will see them ( lack of interactions between players )
2. RMT - p2w players (aka little big % of players here - ya its painful ) would cry that they cannot be higher in ladder then some teenager.

There is absolutely no other reasons NOT to create such league as current sf or want-to-sf players dont interact with other players in current lesgues -> they are not there, economy would not be hurt.

Ps. Yes they can play sf in current leagues BUT cannot participate in ladder with other sf players only -> makes self found completly pointless.

Self found is not pointless without a ladder. I've realized over the course of this thread that different people want self-found for different reasons.

I thought I'd also note, when I see part of the problem is a perception that people feel they need what the most time invested players have, I am not saying "you are all just entitled". I am saying, this is an actual problem we have, and we want to find out why we have this signalling issue.

@ Qarl re the underlined part; where on earth did you get this from?

It certainly did not come from any dedicated proponent in the SFL thread (I have read the entire thing, and several sections of it more than once).

It should also to be obvious that it would be mathematically impossible in a real SFL for players to ever approach competitive progress rates with traders, even GIVEN an orb drop rate increase to facilitate more crafting as an alternative. The RNG on Build-Uniques alone means some things may NEVER be yours.

SFL advocates such as myself, accept these trade-offs willingly. We are not trying to force a play-style on anyone else, and we certainly don't want any sort of loot-pinata, no matter what the trolls keep shouting.

I am dismayed to find such misunderstanding around this issue even after all this time. Perhaps the doom-sayers and trolls have already won.
It doesn't need to be a league people, it could just as easily be a decision when creating a character that makes items bind(only able to use bound items with these specific characters and no other itmes), disables trading, and increases drop rates.

If they could implement this I would be satisfied..... it just seems like this would require more coding and development than adding a new league with a modified ruleset. Also adding a new league would open up other changes like changing the drop ratios of orbs that might add flavor to the league.
Playing predominantly self-found myself (I've done a couple of currency trades, bought a couple low end uniques, that's about it), I decided I'd share my own experiences.

1. Don't expect to be on par with the major streamers

As GGG has mentioned too, there seems to be a expectation to reach the same game-situation as the top ladder streamers, without putting in the time or trading as much (or at all) as them. This is obviously flawed reasoning, and I attribute it to many modern games being a bit too inclusive, letting anyone reach any content, a "you're all winners" type philosophy. Adjust expectations, or at least stretch the time frame for reaching your goals by a large amount.

2. End game content

Without putting in a major amount of time/currency/trading, reaching highest level maps is extremely hard. Myself having played since open beta started (and in closed beta before that), I've only gotten a couple really rare/powerful items, and I've never done a map above 68 (although I have some 69's I'm still working myself up to)

I suggest set your self a reasonable max level. I consider level 80 my max, and if I should reach it with a character and still have fun and want to continue playing, then I would, but mostly the game for me will be making new characters, improve on builds, and gradually build wealth.

Crafting good gear is something that takes a lot of time (and a lot of currency), so each time I get a character to endgame I might manage to find/craft another piece of really decent equipment, and my power level slowly increases.

3. What are you doing here?

Analyze what gives you most enjoyment about the game, since I doubt that very few sit on the edge of your seats sweating until you reach level 100, then have a huge orgasm and retire from the game... the fun in the game is the playing of it... if it turns into a chore, then I would argue you're doing it wrong.

Whenever I feel annoyed at the game, I will put it down until I feel like playing again, maybe I get an idea to test some new combo or something, and I run through normal with a new character, and with some luck find a couple chaos orbs or higher while so doing... the beauty of the game (especially with self found) is that it's never really wasted to play at any level.

If GGG decides to make selffound league, i would be the first to play in there. BUT unlike many other, as it seams, i don't feel the need of changing the game as it is. Actually i wouldn't play there if it wasn't the same game as standard/hardcore league.

I want the game to be a challenge, thats why i play selffound in the first place.
I would definitely like self found league, but ima think if it will move to the "Void League" after it ends I won't play it because i know my RNG i would find a Kaoms in a short duration Void League rather than searching it in HC for months -.- FU RNGsus

Correct. Perhaps you're beginning to understand...
