Our view on map drop rates

I have a hard time believing that no one would use alchs on maps if they were more common. Furthermore, you didnt address the notion of maps being purchasable from vendors, which would make them MORE of a currency sink.

You do realise you can upgrade map level via a trade recipe right?

3 Maps of same name lvl X = 1 Map lvl X+1

If maps could be bought from vendors, people would just mass buy them and keep upgrading them.

Making them scarce would force more currency since the trade recipe way of getting high level maps is too inefficient.

My problem with the end game is that it is boring and unsustainable. Whenever I dont have a map to run, I cant do anything useful. I cant fight mobs that give me decent experience, and I cant fight mobs that drop decent ilvl items. Spending money to have access to end game content is not fun. Period. The last week of my experience with path of exile has essentially running areas way below my level, getting bored, trying and failing to find someone selling maps, and then playing a different game that isnt so boring/frustrating.

It would be like if Diablo 2 locked you out of hell difficulty whenever you didnt have high level runes to spend.

It's just not enjoyable for me, period. You can justify it with gameplay mechanics all night long and it still wont be enjoyable. I want to like Path of Exile. Not resent it because it loses appeal every time a build reaches end game thanks to catch 22.

I didnt really see the answer to my question.

So is it due to the lack of you getting maps?
Lets say you had unlimited level 60 maps, but not 61+, would you still have this problem?

Not getting maps? No. I have had 7+ maps stockpiled in my stash and I still didnt enjoy the end game. Having an unlimited supply would fix the problem, yes, because I wouldnt have to constantly be at the mercy of the RNG.

With all due respect, what is so hard to understand about the fact that if they are being PURCHASED from vendors in mass amounts, that it makes them MORE of a currency sink?

I've been advocating making lvl60 maps available for purchase for an alch for quite some time.

Best of luck.

Because it's not as simple as "what system drains the most currency out of the economy?"

It's about having a currency AS WELL AS retaining aspects of the game which allow player choice. What's more enjoyable? An RNG system where players can choose between playing safer, blue maps en masse or to chisel and alch / chaos for some big hitting maps in hopes for a bigger payout? Or one where players just farm currency from Thicket / Pyramid and buy from the vendor.

They might as well just give us the maps for free if that's the case.
Please explain to me how maps being less scarce would remove that player choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have 7+ maps which clearly you are not running out of maps.
So what would having unlimited maps make it more fun?

What it sounds like to me isnt the fact you dont have maps (which clearly you do) but you want higher level maps correct?

No.

A level 60 map would cost 1 alch.
A level 61 map would cost 3 alch.
A level 62 map would cost 9 alch.
63: 27 alch.
64: 81 alch.
65: 243 alch.
66: 729
67: 2187
68: 6561
69: 19683.

So yes, clearly, it would be a gigantic problem to allow people to buy a level 69 map for twenty thousand alchs. Odd, I can get a level 69 map for much, much less than that by just rolling progression mods. Much less expensive.

Here's the point. It doesn't matter, guys. You want to sink alchs from the economy for level 60 maps? fine. I'll never buy one because I never run out of maps. What are we doing differently? I don't always even roll progression mods on mine.

Whatever, though. My alchs will be more valuable.

I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago.

Yeah clearly if they are 1 alch each, then people wouldnt do it. I doubt you would even see people buying to run 60 maps.

I have been selling my level 60 maps for 2 for 1 alch and have been having a very hard time selling them.

If they put them on the vendors to buy people will still be upset, its a few people being upset most are confused on how the drop rate should work.

I'm not sure what the answer is, if it even needs to be changed. I could care less if they put them on the vendor for 1 alch though, as it wont change much other then the bitch will be from "RNG" to "The price is to high"

I was unclear. I dont have any maps at the moment. What I was trying to say is that even when I did have 7 maps stockpiled in my stash, I still didnt enjoy the end game. I suppose the difference though was having access to it, which is better than having nothing to do.
