Our view on map drop rates
I'm very happy with 0.9.12o patch. IMO map drops have increased tremendously. Actually I was considering giving up on my lvl 74 mara and wait for the OB or the PVP just the day before this patch cuz I was struggling gettin g maps, in essence I was running 60-61s and didn't feel much fun getting 1-2% XP from them. But after the patch I'm playing on an average 62-63s, made 75 easily, and am halfway to 76. I have lots of blue and rare map drops. Getting 64-65s much more frequently than before, though not having much luck with them just yet. Still can't find my first ever 66 :D. But I think I'll get it soon enough, haha. Just to clarify - I'm not even gunning for high map IQQ cuz I don't have the chaoses to roll again and again. Most of the maps I play are actually blues (maze, larger area, map packs, etc) that work great.
All in all the increased drop rate roxx and feel a significant change for the better. Itzo. Last edited by MyH4o#6914 on Oct 2, 2012, 6:16:13 AM

endgame content based on rng is bad idea,if multiboxers dont break the neck of this game this map failure will
as you can see the poster obove me was lucky enough to get a lot of maps, good for him but the nature of rng is that he wont sustain the drop rate - i was lucky too yesterday after 9 vaal pyramid runs i droped 1 map and eventually droped probably 20 more after that - even with streak of 7 maps without a map drop i still have 4 more maps the thing with rng is that everyone will get the same amount of stuff (maps, items, currency etc.) given long enough time - the bad part is that the time to even things out is hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay for items - if you play long enough you will eventually drop mirror of kalandra but maps are a different story, you need them to aquire more of them - so if you get bad luck streak you can easily run out of maps just when you started after 1000 repetitions everyone will have aprox. same amount of drops but to get there you need luck in the first place - thats very wrong approach if there was something else to do this system would work - you dont have a map, lets do something else, fine with me - but if your only endgame content is doing maps and you cant even get them, thats just retarded - unless ofc you plan to sell some "map drop rate charm" in OB :) -you will make a lot of money and piss of a lot of players there was a suggestion for infinite dungeon which is great idea and would solve all the map problems, even without map there would still be something to do and maps could be a reward some of my IGNs:

Can someone please explain MOC as I am struggling to find out the details.

MoC was (in its last incarnation) a level 60 area with random mobs and a random area. It could be accessed at any time after finishing act II. If you didn't like the area (or mobs) you could simply portal out and create a new instance. People did this often to get to Ledge which was by far the most popular area (due to the linear path which kept the group together and mobs attacking from only one direction). I don't miss it because of the lack of choice.
IMO, the areas mostly sucked and if you only liked one area, you could spend several minutes creating new instances waiting for the area(s) you enjoy. I don't really miss it, but if I didn't have any maps, it would be more annoying farming for maps in pyramid/etc. than MoC was when I spent time searching for Ledge. I haven't had a very large sample size yet but I've run 43 maps since the last patch so far and it seems high IIQ on maps (and perhaps yourself?) is detrimental to map drops. I'm loosing on the number of maps in 1 out of 4 cases. When I've run 100 maps I'm gonna look into it in more detail.
Erenor / Kaenro / Xharos / Darksidious / Apoorman / Tarparina

" I agree with this. I find many more maps drop in low quantity maps. RIP Bolto

Look at the mods on lower quantity maps though, you should see some patterns, area, maze, increased magics, rares, pack size, these don't add to quantity, since they have implicit effects on quantity. My personal experience seems to suggest monster amount and rarity (+magics is almost a universal favourite) has the greatest effect on better drops.

" No doubt that +more magic monsters has the greatest effect on map drops, and higher level map drops. IIQ on the map is not effecting map drop rates enough to not have these mods (like +magic, +rare +area etc) |

Oddly enough, I agree. It would seem many people who are simply making maps magic and shooting for increase area size or magic are.doing better.
For example, someone posted a lvl68 maze map which they made maze. Didn't even augment the damn thing. Found another maze map. Now I know RNG is going.to do this sometimes, but all I do is alch maps and usually get nothing in return. I've actually stopped doing maps and switched to group fellshrine runs because I'm bored. Both with the lack of incentive to invest and roll maps for harder mods. And because the mods aren't hard enough. Running hard modded high IIQ maps is about the same difficulty as fellshrine at the moment. I know I'm very overleveled, but, once the levels are readjusted, I would have been even a higher level than I currently am in OB. A couple extra levels would probably add another 1k DPS for me. So, if we were to stick with the current systemi see the same thing happening in OB |
