Our view on map drop rates

I'm waiting for the response/changes/additions to the map system, if the philosophy that map is gear stays, it's pretty unlikely I'll play/test the game again.

If there is one thing I seriously want/need to get through to people, it's this.

Imagine the map system being applied at the start of the game. Just try, please.

Yes I am a total ass, whatever, almost everyone is being shortsighted in this aspect of the game, you're just not sick of doing the same grindy shit over and over again because the map system is so new, novelty and all that.

I agree, the grind for maps is rather ridiculous.
Inside or outside of maps? Low lvl maps drop frequently. But I will agree that the map drop rate outside of maps is rather abysmal.

Its the same people upset about the map drop rates that are the ones that are over leveled for maps.

If you are level 75+ just stop talking about the drop rates of maps for your level to have fun. The game isn't caught up to your level.

If you are under 70, map drop rate is pretty darn good using the right mods. However, I believe its not controllable enough with risk vs reward. Many times you can run +100IIQ maps and get 0 maps. Running a map that hard should have a much better chance to drop a map than what it does.

MrDDT:

The map drop rate is exactly the same whether you're lvl63 or lvl 85. So I'm not sure quite what you're getting at. My point, is that this exact same thing will happen in OB even once the additional acts and leveling (area & maps) #s are readjusted. There will reach a point where the same thing will occur.

And again, if map prices have tripled, which they have, than that means that there are FAR LESS high lvl maps dropping.

I think you missed my point and you should reread it.

I said that level 75+ getting maps FOR YOUR LEVEL, shouldnt even talk about that. You out leveled the content and that's that. Asking for them to change it so you can level to 90 isnt going to happen and shouldnt be the norm.

I understand how map drops work, and I agree with you, your level is not effecting the map drop rate.

To the person who complained about spending an alch on a map. You have the right to your opinion, but I can tell you this. Before the map patch, chisels cost 2x per GCP. On lvl65-66+ maps, many high lvl map players were READILY buying 4 chisels (So 2 GCP) to make said maps 20% quality than using chaos/alch+scour in order to get the correct mods. We did this, because it actually improved our odds at maintaining high lvl maps. Which, as expensive as it was, it worked.

It was nice to be able to "control" the RNG in at least 1 portion of this game. It may have cost us every cent we had, but it was worth it. Now, it's not. As DDT said, the difference between a high IIQ map and a medium one is not that great.

Further, to the devs, Chisels should be a bonus, icing on the cake for maps, not required. Your statement that people are not using enough chisels on maps suggest to me that they are required. If you want the game to be hard, than using chisels, which is not hard, should not be required to get more maps. Using a chisel is easy. Playing a map with temp chains + monster increased movement, attack, cast speed + -20 resists + monsters deal 100% more lightning damage is not. The players that play those maps should be rewarded for the risk they took. Currently, this is not the case (usually).

I agree with all this.

All in all, I believe the map drop rate is a bit messed up but not in the fact of how most people are upset about it. I believe its not controlable enough.

Make the mods harder, or add another orb to give us harder maps and better chance at a drop of a map. Not asking for 10 maps per map to drop. Asking for a choice.

Like he says ^ in this post. They dropping 2 to 4GCP per map, just to get a 20% increased map drop rate on a higher level map.
We should have more and better options like that.

Biggest issue is the fact that doing a map that is say 40%IIQ vs a 100%IIQ is very very small in it dropping another map.
Lets say its getting a map per map is like say 20% chance on a white map. So 1 in 5 maps give a map back if its white.
If you do a blue map (very cheap, easy and fast) of say 40%. You have 28% chance to get a map.
If you do a high IIQ rare map (costly, hard, and slow) of say 100% IIQ. You only have a 40% chance that map is dropping a map.

This is the major issue I have with the map system. Larger bonus needs to be given for higher IIQ on maps IMO, and harder mods on maps.
We increased their drop rates (and the chance of getting higher maps) today in 0.9.12o.

two vaal pyramid runs and no maps so far,i wonder how significant (or rather unsignificant i should say) was the raise in drop rate

Well, I said yesterday no more high lvl char play until patch and today I wake up to see exactly the patch I wanted. Funny how these things work. So I just did a series of 10 map runs and wrote down what happened.

Spoiler
lvl61 15% - 15% mmm - 2 maps 62 62

lvl62 15% - 22% mrm - no map

lvl62 12% - 33% pack size - 2 maps 61 62

lvl62 18% - 39% pack size - 1 map 60, 1 chisel

lvl61 9% - 21% mrm - 1 map 62

lvl62 26% - 28% pack size - 1 map 62, 1 chisel

lvl62 15% - 25% mrm - 1 map 64

lvl64 15% - 20% mmm - 1 map 65

lvl65 9% - 29% mrm - 1 map 67

lvl67 13% - 21% mrm, maze - 3 maps 67 66 62

mmm = more magic monsters, mrm = more rare monsters

took about 3 hours of play, 19% experience was gained to lvl79

Seems a lot of people in chat are talking about having similar success.

I'm not going to draw any conclusions(cos sample size), then again the first results seem quite promising. Later I will do another 10 maps, each getting 1 alchemy orb to see how higher quantity yellow maps will perform against low-blues in this new patch.
meanwhile 5th vaal pyramid completed, still no map

at this point i wont give up only because i want to see how much more retarded it can get

When I was farming for my first ever map, it took me 9 runs - 7 full clears and 2 runs only killing yellow mobs and vaal. Just buy a map. :D
