Ice Shot

Hi!

I'm at level 40 now having this build:

I am running with ice shot-> LMP-> Fork-> Weapon Elemental. and the skill has around 400dps now.

I run with a lvl 6 clarity and barely have enough mana for the skill; I can do around 3 shots, then I have to wait or chunk some mana pots.

I clear fairly fast solo, but in group play I feel a little weaker than the split arrow Shadow im comparing myself to. He has cheaper skill with fewer supports, but still deals around 150 more dps. Now I think the iceshot ranger is in a good spot, but im afraid later on my dps will be shit compared to other specs and with alot less survivability than other specs... I imagine mostly anyone else will be able to go wider on the tree to reach VP, CI, GR, etc. I am aiming for something like this:

I think it is unfair that I cannot possibly deal the same amount of dps as another type of ranger even though they can probably go for more survival and less dps passives... I would have liked to be able to go CI, VP and GR, but I realize i probably cant go there.

I also have a question regarding the ICE SHOT skill itself... I obviously think that improving my first physical impact with as much projectile and physical dmg nodes as possible will be the best dmg increase... But I want to be 100% sure. It would be nice to verify whats truly best between the three; 8% elemental dmg, 8%projectile dmg and 8% physical dmg?

I am also wondering whether or not my bow weapon dmg will apply on the cone of ice behind the first impacted target?

Projectile damage regardless of what projectile skill you're using is always the best, as it effects all damage. With iceshot in particular physical is quite good, but be aware that a lot of your damage will come from anger/wrath/rings that do elemental damage, these are particularly good with iceshot as you should be using WED support anyways.
Cmon. VS other bow skills ice looks worse then all.
Looks like not quality will be changed and no buffs was planned for Ice Shot... cool.
Then whats point to make useless skills? Just remove them at all.

Bcs endgame ice shot looks worse even then bad melee.
All who think ice is OP or maybe balanced... idk, they just dont need this gem at all and play with other class/gems or just make fun. Eh, nvm GGG, i know that there no plans for buffs useless gems as you think they are fine and balanced, but players just didnt find special build to make them viable for endgame. Nvm.

I think it would help us all if you actually came with some ingame stats to backup what you would say; maybe then GGG would listen... I don't really see many concrete examples in this thread.
I definately agree that the quality part of this gem is a little off; would be nice to see chance to freeze.

I'm not sure, but must be stats with how much popular gems and most wanted.
My stats and calc with any facts still will make same result for GGG as my words.
If they want to make viable and nice skill as other skill gems - they can do w/o even any stats/facts/words/blahblahblah if not - i cant change that, never, even if do all my best.

So if for you its better then RoA or Split or LA or BA - fine, you are ulraHC best of the best mega brutal fan of ice shot, nothing good.
i have not tested but to me it seems IS would be far safer then any other bow skill becuase of the freeze, especially on a crit knock back build
You want a crit knockback build? I've got a crit knockback build. And a guide for it. Some people really need to search the forums before complaining about endgame usefulness, maybe.

LA > IS on damage potential (shockstacks are easier to get on crit LA - not impossible on crit IS - but easier on LA), but why does it matter when both of us are two-shotting basically any pack of mobs, in a 6-group? Worse than bad melee, my foot.

Yeah, safest bow skill in the game is one way of putting it. Only way to play safer is dual ranged totems and that's debatable.

Okay, now that I'm done defending...why does the quality bonus to ice suck so much, and can we get better graphics on this thing?

I love this skill, but I was trying it out with a Ranged Totem and LMP, and it would consistently lock up the screen for a quick bit and sometimes back-to-back. I switched in LA and haven't looked back even though I miss the mitigation. Once I add Blind, I doubt it will matter. FYI, the issues are happening even post the graphic update. If anything, I have yet to experience better graphic issues since the update.

Got to level 80 so far with ice shot and there is one thing that annoys me - because monster positioning is always slightly off sync lining up shots is difficult. With larger packs this does not matter as much but when you are trying to line up 2-3 monsters it can be a pain.

And I think it's a bit weird that you get increased physical damage while LA gets increased projectile damage. Both are conversion skills so why the difference?
So i think Ice Shot needs to be slightly buff to be on par with Lighnting Shot and Split Arrow.

LA is way way better.. and it cost less mana..
Split Arrow is a great skill and it cost soo much less mana.

Why is Ice Shot the least use skill and cost the most mana?
I think maybe a slight damage buff to counter act with how much mana it cost?

I know at end game it only cost 1 more mana than LA but thats alot once you link stuff to it.
Even though im building around Blood Magic support gem its still alot...

Currently rolling a Ice Shot pure physical on Nemesis, i'll see how it goes.
Last time i rolled Ice Shot was back on onslaught and i end up scratching the build since it barely did damage.

Leveling with Split Arrow to make it go faster, never knew how good Split Arrow
