Crafting? Don't be silly, just buy the item.

That is so true.. The current system, takes the fun out of casual play.
I play solo, due to timelimts on when and how much I can play.
But I play loot games, to find good loot, have fun with it, and discover stuff..
I don't want to spend my orbs trying to upgrade things I shouldn't, but neither do I want to google, 'best builds, best gear to orb', I want to find this stuff out by myself, it's more fun and rewarding..
I would happily throw orbs into crafting as I level if the orbs either dropped more or the crafting was a little less harsh..
As it is, I get the feeling it's a waste to throw orbs onto low level gear, save them for when I hit 70ish (which will prolli never happen) and thus miss an aspect of the game that should be fun..

Eventually I will grow bored with the lack of discovery, the thrill of creation and the getting no-where feeling..

Currently I mostly play hardcore because it's still fun to try and get the next toon just that few levels higher than the last.. I would never stop playing HC, but if there was a more generous solo league, I' spend a lot of time in that, and more money on cosmetics/tabs for my fun high level toons..

It's a win/win for both GGG and casual, nay time restricted players. Casual seems to imply not taking a game serious, I take my gaming time very serious, after all that limited time is precious and I would like a sense of progress and enjoyment from it..

So what if I want to splash around in a kiddy pool, stay in the deep end if you prefer, but you can not say that we don't need one. Obviously there is enough demand, and it would increase the player base. Thats not a bad thing, that might actually help GGG build some waterslides for the deep end.. :)
I like threads like this, amuses me at how worked up people get over a game.
If you call constructive critisism being worked up..
I have yet to reach end game, close to it thou. Casual here, mainly trade, no point crafting as i need to make sure my currency found are well spent. For me, this game not abt crafting at all, is about looting and trading.

Real case: dropped a good hp and es chest for me, 1s, not high level gear but is surely an upgrade for me if i can wear it. No i cant due to slot and link restriction. Look into my inv, 11 fusing, 20 chrome, and abt 10 jeweller, ok, not wearing it i guess. Keep farming.

I feel somewhat differently about trading than you do. I kind of see it as going to wallow in the slime with a bunch of other people wallowing in slime. What's more fun to me is ANYTHING -- including not playing POE at all.

Believe me, trade chat is a cesspool. Where else can you voluntarily go to get scammed?(Don't answer that) The day I spent in trade looking for upgrades, I saw everything, uniques with crappy rolls being sold higher than uniques with average to good rolls. Or uniques going for outrageous prices because one roll is max while the other 3 are the lowest they can go. I'd rather buy that Le heup of all that rolled 15, 15, 15, 15 for one exalt than the other that rolled 20,10,10,10 for 2.5 exalt, just because it has a max value(Not that I could have afforded either :p ).

But at the same time, you can get some awesome deals, portal gem for an alch? Yes please! There's the diamond that some clueless git ate and it came back out the other end. You just gotta dig through the stuff to find things like that.
Problem is, poor RNG/crafting helps scammers more than those just wanting to enjoy the game and (what it should be)/is
With totally wild RNG The only people on the happy top of the bell curve are those that gather 100's of exalts without effort. Generally the traders.
All simply beacause The more you play (this) RNG the more it evens out..

That is the main issue I have with some people getting a good roll for an exalt and others spending 100.. The drops don't allow the majority to come close to an average after a bad streak of luck..

Personally I don't play games for luck.. Carrot, stick.. I'll take (and pay for) the carrot thanks.. keep throwing me sticks and I'll keep my money..

Fix the issue GGG and myself and others would more than likely spend $10 or more on m$ (microtransactions) every payday..

Now GGG, I have noticed you staying quiet in threads like this, so either you have plans up your sleeves, if so drop a hint, actually just say it how it's gonna be, or you know you f'd up and are to stuburn to accept that people are showing you the way to the golden goose.. Which is it.. This topic needs to be put to bed so no more time is wasted!!
When the OP claims that all crafting attempts are silly, he's really just talking about 5L and 6L socket-crafting. 3L and 4L socket-crafting is a completely different proposition. My experience is that it typically takes less than a dozen each of Jewelers, Fusings, and Chromatics to craft 4L gear (so long as the item's socket-color bias is compatible with your gems).

However, I do agree with your overall assessment - it's far more efficient to search for gear with the specific item mods you need with on-line shop indexers than it is to use mod-gambling orbs to craft your own Rare items. This is particularly true of obscure mods like Chaos Resist, which occur far too infrequently to gamble for.

In most cases, however, the items you find in stores will not have the exact socket configuration you need. Fortunately, the Jewelers, Fusings, and Chromatics it takes to 3L or 4L them can be readily farmed or vendored at any difficulty level. Using this combination of Rare item mod-shopping and socket-crafting, I have been able to outfit all of my characters with 3L and 4L gear by the end of Normal difficulty.

IME, there is a huge gap between 3L/4L socket-crafting versus 5L/6L and Rare mod-crafting. With 3L/4L crafting, you can trade Chaos orbs for the mid-level socket-crafting orbs you need. It's high-level Rare and 5L/6L crafting that take multiple Exalts to finance, a high-stakes gambling proposition that is out of reach for most players.

For dedicated endgamers, however, the drop rates of high-end crafting orbs are frustratingly meagre. Here's my proposal:

A simple crafting fix to keep endgamers grinding:

The boss in each level 75-77 map has a small chance to drop one of the following new orbs (placeholder names):

LVL-75+: Bronze Orb - Punches max number of sockets in an item.

LVL-76+: Silver Orb - Turns all sockets in an item white.

LVL-77: Gold Orb - Links all sockets in an item.

Once picked up, these orbs are permanently bound to the player's account. All items crafted by these orbs are likewise permanently bound to the player's account.

Hey kinda like the above idea, perma bound item acc is the one of the solution for endgame grinding. Unless of course, player play endgame to trade, otherwise, i totally support the above.

This should be "Buying a item? Don't be silly just craft the item"

Sure crafting can be lame, but 99% of trades are more mind snapping.

Crafting is much more fun in the long run, and what else is there to spend currency on?

This was crafted from a white item, so OP you whinging hasn't convinced me not to craft.

Mapping to get to level 100, that's where you can spend your currency.

i used over 300 chaos orbs on a 2 handed mace, not once did i get over 150% ED, wont be crafting ever again, best to just buy the items

ED as in elemental damage. OR did u mean PD as in physical damage. IF elemetnal damage, then you could have used an unlimited amount of chaos orb and you will never get 36%+ ED.
