Petrov's Elemental Bow Ranger Build(s) (0.10)

What i am trying to say is that iron grip doesnt prevent you from using ele bows. You can still use em without losing any dps. You make it sound like that if you pick iron grip then you cant use ele bows at all.
Spending like 6-7 points to just reach iron grip might not be worth it, but if it is only 1 point i don't see why not.
In contrary to nodes like blood magic, unwavering stance, CI or resolute smite, iron grip doesnt also come with a negative effect, so it doesnt limit your choices.

I think petrov mentioned this once in responses to Iron Grip: Take it if your path goes through the middle already. If you're bee-lining from BM to RT via the bottom, then its not worth another 5 points

Hey all, so I'm fairly new to the game and decided to give the all out dps shock static build a go! I generally play with two melee characters so I figured having two meat shields infront of me would allow me to go a bit more dps oriented. I'm level 37 and got blood magic and a couple dps nodes. I'm curious as to when I should aim to get static blow? Should I make a b-line for it or would I be better off to get it near the end of the build? Thanks for the help in advance!

I just made a b-line for it after getting blood magic/reflexs/stance. If you got LA with LOH then the mobs shouldn't be a problem at all, assuming you're playing in softcore of course, I've only died on bosses when i'm not lagging horribly (and only once on vaal). Assuming you do have decent resistance of course, i'm wearing
that I found so my res is all maxed (except chaos) in cruel.

Thanks for the info! I actually managed to get a Life Leech gem I'm using at the moment with my LA. What is more beneficial for rangers? Life Leech or Life on hit?

As for the build, between BM and Resolute, I took the detour to Iron Grip. Yes this is 5 extra points, but I also got direct access to 2 Savants (saving 3 wasted points), +30 str notable, huge HP cluster, and +30% elemental dmg nodes near it. This replaced the cluster of nodes near Shadow Start (which I think wasted too many points for small IAS and ele dmg).

What are your thoughts on this? Lately I've been reading through a lot of posts and I'm starting to regret getting Iron Grip because of low phys base. Will cost me about 15 respec points to fix... One extremely noob question for anyone to answer: LA converts 50% phys dmg to lightning, so why is it not important to have some phys dmg as well?

Thanks,

Why did you avoid the 3x10% wep elemental dmg nodes near the start of your build? They seem easier to get than the ones near iron grip.

And i guess the problem with physical dmg is that LA converts only 50% of your phys dmg to elemental, so only 50% of your dmg would be affected by your +% elemental dmg bonuses.

Oops, an oversight... I drew my tree on the fly to give you guys a general idea :)

And that is a good point regarding phys damage. So I understand this right, the ele damage shouldn't come from the LA... Just the flat ele dmg on the bow, buffed by +%ele dmg?

As far as i know it isnt only the bow that is buffed. Elemental damage from skills, rings, auras and etc should also be buffed. Every elemental damage should be buffed by the +%ele dmg.

What i meant was that only half your physical damage would be turned to elemental damage and as a result be affected by the +%elemental damage. The other 50% will remain as physical damage and as a result not be affected by the +% elemental damage bonuses. I guess though you could use smth like the blackgleam quiver to convert the remaining 50% physical damage to elemental.

I guess the reason that it isn't important to get physical damage is that you can get flat elemental damage just as easily without having to get on the trouble of converting it from physical to elemental.

Runnig the first build in OP and its working great but will Life on Hit be better than Life Leech as I only go for elemental damage? (LA and Elemental Hit as main damage)
I have been running Petrov's tankier shock stacking build in Hardcore and am currently level 33 with no signs of slowing down.

For future reference since I'm not quite there yet, I had a question about abilities and support gems.

Petrov recommends:
"
1. Lightning Arrow/Ice Shot + Weapon Elemental Damage + Faster Attacks + Lesser Multiple Projectiles + Life Leech (or Life on Hit, or Culling Strike if you have sufficient Life on hit/kill from your gear). I don't really think you need Chain/Fork with LA given it's inherent AoE attributes.

I am considering swapping Faster Attacks for Chain, and maybe adding Lightning Penetration, since it will help clear mobs with higher resists or resist auras (or both). Part of me doesn't want to use Faster Attacks because I don't want to drain more health/mana even faster than I already do.

I am also wondering about the necessity of Blood Magic. Especially in Hardcore, I am having a hard time justifying the idea that I will have to spend health to deal damage, especially considering I have had a couple close calls.

Has anyone had success NOT using Blood Magic?

EDIT:

Also had a question about the necessity of Resolute Technique - what is the purpose of this? Does it cause you never to miss if you clicked a target?

Doubts!
4L Item...

Spell Totem :
| + Summon Skeleton? +Faster Casting +Minion Life ?
| + Ice spear? +Faster Casting +Stun?

Suggestion?
Not use Spell Totem?

Thanks! =D

It's kind of a question about what you prefer, I like the skeletons personally. However if you run Ice Spear, don't forget to add LMP or if you can GMP into the link.

Hey great post, Been following your guidelines since lvl 1, I am currently lvl 66, and have run into some trouble.

I picked the last spec.

I keep dying to reflect damage packs. Even with life leech on Lightning arrow. What am I doing wrong? Is it my gear, my resistances? IDK.

Any helpful info will help, thanks.

On LA you are better off running life gain on hit rather than life leech. Another thing to note is that you probably want max resists to not kill yourself. I normally have 80 all res and can shoot reflect mobs fine, but then I ran this rare lvl 68 map that had both -max resist and elemental weakness I believe and kept playing like I usually did. I killed myself from 100% to dead with 1 LA. Luckily it was on softcore, but the experience loss still hurts past lvl 80.
