Petrov's Elemental Bow Ranger Build(s) (0.10)

Build fixed, again. I made a few small tweaks, but feel free to trade off dps/life as you see fit, there are heaps of options to do so.

hey mrpetrov,

very interesting build! I'm lvling my first ranger on HC right now...currently on my way to Iron Grip on the skill tree. there are some points that I don't fully understand about your choices.

1) right at the start you took a +4% IAS node after Perfect Aim. isn't that a wasted point and could be applied more useful somewhere else?

2) i see that you solely go for +elemental dmg nodes and no crit chance and/or multiplier. what's your reasoning there?

3) where do you go first from Iron Grip on? i would love to get Unwavering Stance asap (not so much Blood Magic for HC) but that's a lot of nodes to get there. do you think I should get it while leveling or rather endgame?

4) up top in the templar zone...I would grab Elementalist and Celestial Walker for another +20% elemental dmg and some resistances

it would be interesting to know how viable you think your build is in hc anyway.

Hey Af

1. I've found that a 4% IAS node is pertty juicy in terms of DPS impact (if you crunch the numbers in excel). You could always trade it easily for something else, like an 8% life node, if you wanted. In terms of DPS impact, I'm not sure there is a better node available as a direct 1:1 tradeoff in the current build, but I'm all ears (eyes?) if you have a suggestion for a better one?

2. No point getting crit chance as this build relies on diamond's to crit. Bows have a very low base crit chance, so unless you're really going to try and stack crit chance, having a little bit is almost pointless. Crit multiplier gives great bang for buck - when you pop a diamond. I already have loads of crit multi on my gear. Remember, you don't need to do a gazillion dps to kill most mobs. If you're finding it particularly hard to kill rares and bosses quickly, then yes, more crit multiplier will help (if you use diamond flasks!!). Don't become too enamoured with your tooltip dps.

3. Hmm, this is entirely to one's taste and gear of course. Getting unwavering stance comes with getting the Berserker node and Blood Magic. I'd only go down there if you have enough life to switch into BM.

4. Yup, you can do that, not crazy at all - of course you will have to trade off some other nodes. Which nodes were you thinking of dropping?

thanks for the feedback! :)

As I mostly play HC, I'm always sceptical about BM. So I might try the build without it. That means that I don't need my life pool quite as high and could leave out 2-3 8% life nodes on the way. I don't have an excel sheet to crunch the numbers but would the +20% ele damage not be better than the 4% IAS? this way I'd have my 5 nodes and would just need 2 more. don't know where to cut these though haha.
Doesn't Unwavering Stance make any evasion rating etc. on gear, passives etc. useless? Or do you not need evasion as a Ranger later on?

Yes, it does. That's why you also get Iron Reflexes, so the evasion is converted into armour.

Petrov.
Ah okay, thank you.
Thanks for this guide.

Anyone tried this build with Resolute Technique? I'm wondering if killing the harder rares would become a problem without crits or would it actually be better at high 80s then having 70% chance to hit.
