Petrov's Elemental Bow Ranger Build(s) (0.10)

Petrov told me he is not playing bow characters at the moment but he will update this guide as soon as he can.

In the meantime I post here my variation of his elemental ranger build:

Current tree progression at level 65:

Possible tree when I reach level 80:

The main differences are: No Iron Grip, no Fitness, no Elemental Adaption.

The reason I drop Iron Grip is that it only gives me about 100 damage if use an item or skill that converts physical into elemental damage (e.g. Lightning Strike, Ice Shot, Burning Arrow, Black gleam etc.)and so I rather want to reach more elemental damage bonus nodes or attack speed nodes.

The reason for fitness is that discipline and training is clearly superior with 30 to max life AND 12 percent life. In fact I didnt take fitness before the passive skill tree change and always felt like I was wasteing points if I would take it and you already have enough life through the life circle and thick skin plus all the strength nodes.

And I dropped Elemental Adaption because I feel that after the resistance change I do not always have capped out resistances and that it is not easy to fill all the resistances up to over max. If you want you could easily take more resistance in this build and sacrifice some damage or life but I feel that I can live with 50% resistances (I took the bandit resistance buff in 3 difficulties).

Build updated for 0.9.13. Dropped Elemental Adaptation given changes to resists, although feel free to pick it back up if you've capped out on resists, as the impact is meaningful.

Also, consider replacing Crit Dmg support gem with Lightning Penetration support gem.

Hey gang,

I want to build a solid and strong toon for all my famring when OB comes. This build seems pretty spectacular.

i was wondering, though, if tnere would be any merit for making this build as a duelist, like so: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAQQBDoTpHCRCnaDa5mH9HV7NnSbA84lcWRYYYZrfSrK8OvyuutvhQS3w9HAjd-DADNxhhuaFD4lpfpb9aAltI-9IrIyfC2o6q_In8kM_fpo64s2SsmK29AqYFAQfeR5Gqg2OtPZV4Qr8Kq-E1xwS3SNReBhg2UmcvMMXF4eVhyyS8_6DXu8H5wnqKsiZvQJbqUGxZKZQtJfUxwaqFnYGXVWy5qtlVdKThx9-CHrCnAqoMR2AyTPVqgU6VkTGMulxhCkcSFn881DD2eFw94dss_keEzsoLVWCee3uNe5g-inWOTLeoK9NjQ8pV30L3jOjoM6NMS0iNJ0wITo=

It seems slightly more economical, skillpoint wise. It does sacrifice the Finesse and Perfect Aim keypoint nodes at the beginning of the build, but this base I posted might be a good starting point? Also, this one wouldn't use blood magic, and therefore took 3 mana nodes.

What do you guys think?
Love your work and have followed your insightful comments on the forums. Just been tinkering around with different ideas for the OB, and noticed your build only has 1 actual "bow" node. Does that mean that this could potentially be used for/as a base for an Ethereal Knives character?

Thanks for your work, greatly appreciated.

Hi shake

Ethereal Knives is a "spell", whereas Lightning Arrow, Elemental Hit, Burning Arrow, etc are "attacks". So things like IAS nodes won't have any benefit for spells - you need increased cast speed.

Heya Petrov. Loving the build thus far. i have two rangers, 1 i built myself and one im following your build and it feels alot better.
i have a question, do you level your aura gems and if so how high?
Thanks for the work.
Hi Phfwoar (never seen that spelling of phwoar before!)

I generally do level aura gems as high as they'll go. Of course, it depends on your gear and your str/int/dex stats - you don't want to get into a position where you have to wear a specific piece of gear if it's crap just because it has, for example, +35 intelligence. It's best to always know your skill tree well enough that you can grab a +30 str/dex/int node from the passive tree if you need it, rather than gimp yourself with a shit piece of gear (because good gear is usually >> 1 passive node).

Thanks for the info. im still undecided on ele bow ranger or sword duel weild for OB tho. i guess ill just make both :).
Hey, the build I mentioned the other day is going to be using Lighting Arrow. I have very little experience with bow charas so I wonder if I could run it past you (or anyone else in the know) to see how my CI Frenzy Crit Leecher might work out.

Here is the Shadow & Ranger skill trees.

The idea of the build is to have high crit chance & damage, Blood Rage to give frenzy charges & extra leech, with Ghost Rever providing energy shield regen. High attack speed, high crit, life & mana leech. Seems too good to be true...

I know the ES nodes will give me enough ES Pool with endgame gear & I will focus on attack speed and damage modifiers where I can.

I am guessing that I am going to be looking for a high physical damage bow as I will need as much physical damage as I can for the leech to be effective but I want to use Lightning Arrow for its AOE.

The questions I have are mainly will Lightning arrow work with the build in terms of a)damage output (without ridiculous gear) and b)leeching amounts. Will I end up leeching low amounts of mana or ES as a result of using Lightning arrow? What other skills should I consider?

Well, it's just an idea at this stage I haven't tested it & I haven't come across it in game really so any input would be appreciated.
Hi
I read your build several times but haven't read all the posts. So when start out no need to level up SA right? When do you start to level it? When you got BM right?
Mana wise is the only thing i'm worry about this build
Great build, keep it up. Thanks
Strange, Ages did not change this Place
