Development Diary: End-game Maps

3 Random Unique Maps Ideas:

Iron Man Map:
-Player only has 1hp and 0 Es (With CI and Eldtrich Battery)
-The Area only contains really slow Enemies like Zombis or Range Mobs with slow flying projectiles. So the player can easily evade but if he fails one time he is dead.

GGG Headquarter:
-10-20 Bosses with the Names of GGG Devs.
-Map used the jungle Tileset from act 2 + a house that looks like the GGG Headquarter

Cow lvl like Unique Map:
-With Unique Maps GGG could create Areas, which works like the Cow lvl in D2. Thousand of funny Monsters ^^

Bravo, amazing idea and i can't wait to see how it plays out.
Awesome, awesome, aaaaawesome :)

The only doubt I had is, with the exception of maps themselves, having to run the last act boss or trade to get a first chance at a map.

Could there be a chance, even if much smaller than the act boss, for maps to drop in other areas of the last act/difficulty?

This was a nice thing in Diablo is in the life of one character I might have found this one super rare rune, and was able to trade gear for my build, without being forced into the "boss farming" style of play.

Nothing wrong with boss runs, and I imagine that's what we'll end up doing in parties as it will be easier than running the boss alone. But would it be a bad idea to have a very small, tiny chance of finding a map elsewhere?
Path of Exile Pandemonium Quest unique map. Make it happen.

I'm speechless that you guys can take such already amazing itemization to the next level.

Also lol'ed at the "fourth difficulty" subtlety. Way to go, inferno.
Unviable build tester.

I am also giddy about this announcement, but I do wonder why this is only restricted for the end-game content? I feel that after A3, the normal player is beyond that of a typical noobie about game mechanics. I feel that maps could be a way to level and grind to make each difficulty a bit more of a jump than it currently is.

When I play on my characters, going from normal to cruel barely feels like a bump at all. Using maps could be a way to make the difficulty change much more noticeable. Not to the point that it was necessary to farm maps every difficulty or die, but I wouldn't restrict this mechanic off the gate to just end game content. If I am leveling my xth character and want to feel something different than the 3 acts, this could relieve that feeling for awhile in any difficulty.

I agree. Having maps enabled earlier would make replaying the game much more fun imo, as it would make the second playthrough different from the first.
