Playing Self-found

It seems there's a lot of people raging over the multi-boxers inflating the economy for the "average joe". With that said, i've been playing entirely self-found (sans (1) decent 2 hander that i used on my ground slam/heavy strike maruarder). Granted i haven't made it to end game yet - my highest is the maurader at lvl 57. Currently he's kinda stuck due to a lack of gear.

Although i'm currently starting to level a LA duelist. Hopefully going ranged will let me get to end-game a little easier than with my maruarder.

For those out there who are really discouraged to the inflation of the economy have you considered or are you going to start playing self-found?

I've had a blast of a time and am worried that if i enter the realm of the trade channel it'll be like what happened when i opened up the ah in diablo 3 for the first time...

That's pretty much how I play. Though I do play with 3 other friends occasionally and we'll give each other items sometimes.

With the amount of game time I have I just can't compete with the HUNDREDS of orbs people seem to have.

OP: if you want to avoid trade chat, I might have some decent gear I could just hand you. Nothing too spiffy, but enough perhaps to let you progress another few levels. Hit me up via PM if you want to see if what I have is even an upgrade.

P.S. Playing entirely self-found is terrifying and I would never want to try it, so many kudos for being better than I.

I do not play self found because I do not run with MF gear so I don't get enough rares of my type to be able to do that without getting super bored from farming. That being said, I think that I could do it, it would just be harder. I say go for it if you want though. Merciless might take you longer than you though but once you break through the other side and start maps, the inherit quantity of loot in maps will give you more rares to choose from. I personally find trade aggravating cause it takes too long to have to keep going back to town to spam your WTS posts and sometimes it takes forever to browse through the WTB posts to find anything useful. And the shop thread is just as useless. The only time anyone will see your shop is when you are playing the game currently and only if you are bumping your thread every hour on the dot. I have backloggs of decent gear that is unsold and Im thinking of just vendoring most of it and focusing more on just playing. I felt the same way about D3. Once I started using the AH, it became a bigger part of the game than it should have been. I don't want this game to be that so if your with me on that concept, then just do self found. /rantover

Other than 7 or 8 spiffy pieces of gear just given to me, I play the very same way. It's a stuggle at times, but I like it.

Wait... that's not totally true. My wife plays too and we trade the stuff we find amongst ourselves. It's kind of irrelevant, though, since I know her password and she knows mine. :)

I play self found, it's the bee's knees. I never have to sit around and try to trade stuff or bump forum posts endlessly or haggle with people, I just get to play. Currently 68 LA ranger building my map pool in merci docks before I start doing maps.

Level 75 self found. First and only char (lvl 25 shadow was just to try the mechanics)
The only thing I bought was reduced mana gem, but i could get it with another character in couple of hours so this doesnt counts:D

I had trouble progressing at lvl 40 50 and 65. But just grind ur favorate location at the moment and u will get it done eventually.

O love economy games. I loved Diablo AH game. I got rich rly fast but they scrued up the economy to the stage were even I that guy who loves AH begins to hate it. Because of that plus that trading in this game sucks made me decide to play self found ONLY. For all my chars.
I think if I will find some decent stuff - I might sell it but only for future craft, not to buy anything.

It is hard but doable and much more fun (also more rewarding)

I´ve created a farm char that I level right now, he should provide my other chars with equip, that´s what I hope... ;-)

To get as high as possible IIQ and IIR is the target, so in the best case I can say "trade chat - bye bye!" :-)

Also I almoast dont have any IIQ or IIR becouse i would die then to easy. For now I didnt find any gear with those stats that are good for me so I just don`t use it

Of course, this kind of char is not a fighter, it´s a farmer! ;-)

I´m sure I will get in trouble in merciless (maybe even in cruel), but it´s not the target to see the endgame, it´s the target to farm as much as possible currency for my other chars.

My plan is to have totems (spell totem and flame totem) with IIQ and IIR gems, so I don´t have to fight face to face, and kill as much as possible foes.
