Playing Self-found

My highest is mid 70's and he's using all self-found gear. I was lucky enough to find a 5L, even though it doesn't fall in to line with the correct defense stats ( Dex/Str instead of Dex/Int ), but oh well. I'll gladly take the damage the extra slot affords me. I got pretty lucky with a high dual elemental IAS Thicket roll after about 3 chaos. The rest of my gear is kind of garbage, but I've been doing some 66 maps with pretty good success.

I usually plan out the entire passive tree before making a character, and adapt priorities based on what he needs at the time. I greatly enjoy playing like this, as you can noticeably feel your character progressing rather than the D3 method of playing the AH until you get good gear and slapping it on all at once. It also makes it so I get excited at what others would consider mediocre drops as long as it is an upgrade for me. A lot of complaints with these types of games are from people that RWT gear and then bitch because there is nothing left to do.
Level 60 mostly self found (I traded for my quiver).

Found a 5L grove bow at 35, been using it since while I try 5 linking a highborn. Close to saying "fuck it" and just of keeping the grove.
Absolutely agree. Self-found is more interesting to play, as no way do I want to waste my time searching through shop threads to find - whatever it is. Doubt I'll ever bother with trade, and tbh I don't understand people who'd rather do this than simply play the game. From what I read on the forums I don't have the money to interest any sellers anyhow, and too many of them seem to be happily out to scam anyone who doesn't have every value range memorised.

I'm levelling up a farmer now (summoner/fire witch): it's too easy playing her, for the most part, she's just going to be there to garner loot for the other characters and hopefully make it so I can actually progress more interesting builds.

I understand this is a role playing game, but I don't think the best role to play should be shopkeeper. - AlteraxPoe
I've never used trading, all my characters in my signature have managed with self-found items.

my new endeavor of my Lightning Arrow Duelist, is that a good choice for trying to get to end-game for the first time as a self-found?

What other builds are there that are not very gear dependent? I would guess summoner as well?
Self found requires crafting. Crafting which is broken to say the least
65 witch here in act 3 merciless. I play pretty much 98% self found, I have traded for a chain gem and a faster projectiles gem. My character struggles a bit defensively, but being a ranged caster, I can avoid most damage. I do good damage, and farming is easy with the character. I found a set of wondertrap boots, so I have picked up a bloodmagic + aura for farming, and an item rarity gem for my main attack. I have a few pieces with iiq, nothing game breaking or anything, but farming trips are usually a success. I do hop in parties to farm on occasion, or if I am getting frustrated with dying to even mild desync or not paying attention, i will hop in a progression group.

The game continues to be a blast, I am in love with the character I have created. I have a steady stream of currency coming in, but I do spend alchemys regularly and chaos occasionally, and have had some success with the rolls.

I wont ever be the "richest ever", or "the furthest progressed", but my goals in gaming have never lined up with those goals, I do not have the time or patience necessary to achieve goals like that. I do have a problem with exploiters in the changes to meta game and how they create this "if you arnt exploiting you are doing it wrong" mentality in games. Play to have fun, play legit and make money on streams by being excellent, but for the love of entertainment, please stop exploiting, exploiters are only cheapening their own goals by cheating to obtain them.
Hey...is this thing on?

glad you posted this OP.

i dont give 2 shits about multiboxers and their effect on the economy. i play with my clan and we support each other with our own economy.

sure i will scan trade chat every now and then looking for a specific unique but so far have only purchased 1 thing from chat (death's harp) cuz i really needed it for a specific build.

This thread is actually making me consider this approach more. No more browsing the trade forum or trade chat. No more hoarding gear to sell for alchs. I think the only thing that would be beneficial is to trade for gems. If you really need Greater Multiple Projectiles, then just buy it. It will help. Other than that I really am starting to grow towards this style.

77 witch here. Only thing i bought is a 7% freezing pulse that i am still leveling.

Also, i play softcore so i don't entirely understand what the problem is since you only lose some xp when dying.
