Playing Self-found

I want a no-trade league where you can use only what you find on your one account, but can share between characters using the stash.
The Analytical Engine has no pretensions whatever to originate anything. It can do whatever we know how to order it to perform.
I always play self-found as long as I can, but at some point it stops being practical.

What do you do when you want a 20% gem? Upgrade one from scratch? That's insane.

glad you posted this OP.

i dont give 2 shits about multiboxers and their effect on the economy. i play with my clan and we support each other with our own economy.

sure i will scan trade chat every now and then looking for a specific unique but so far have only purchased 1 thing from chat (death's harp) cuz i really needed it for a specific build.

what build are you using death's harp for? I think that's one of the few uniques i've found! :P

omg! i want this! maybe even go so far as to have drops work differently so that groups can't abuse the system!
Self-found since Diablo 2. I like it that way, every rare feels exciting. :) And no, I'm not anywhere near the end-game.
This signals the end of a post. I apologise to everyone who had to suffer through it.
Self found here.

One thing I noticed is that one tends to forget to upgrade regulary.

You play with your gear until you find something better with drops or you hit a wall. But at that point it is too late. Once you hit that point you see that you are lacking and getting better gear on the spot is no easy feat to do on your own. This is where many self found people tend to say that playing so is not feasable.

Even though your gear might still be good at the moment you need to roll the next higher tier (or maybe skip one tier) from time to time to get better stuff.

This is espeacially true for jewelery since they are the main source for resistances and you don't get higher tiers but higher itemelevel with a chance to get higher resistance mods.

Yop, only self found gear, but playing summoner really helps, cause you are really not gear dependant.

The price on items are quite fair and you can found good deals, but it takes too much time to look for it, so I decided to gear myself alone, while waiting for GGG to implement some bartering system.

I play mostly self found because trading takes so much time it ruins my fun of playing lately. I purchased just my bow and I've made it to level 83. Will definitely be able to make it much further without purchasing anything at this point. The time spent sitting around trading can be spent farming.
I play solo self-found, as I did in d2. Expecting long run progress (as in d2). My plan is as follows:

1) get familiar with game and its base mechanics (checked)
2) theorycraft endgame build with little gear dependance and reach endgame (checked)
3) farm endgame and save good drops
4) theorycraft another build around some of my best (or unique) finds
5) make it to endgame
6) repeat 3-5

years of progress :)

best wishes

The problem with self found is you find only gear for other classes/builds... So trading is the best method for gear optimization ;)
