The reason is, you will have a bigger customer base. If a customer has 16 Alts, then they can make 4 Jewelers or 2 fusing themselves or they can keep them as Alts for doing their map crafting. But if you turn them to fusing then you just lost 2/3 of your potential customers.

Same. That's what I USED to do, alts->jewelers->fusings; hell I must have made about 30 fusings in this manner, and I cry thinking about it now. Especially since those could have been cold hard Chaos/Alchs in my hands instead of "OMFG STOP GIVING ME 2 LINKS, JUST FRIGGIN 4 LINK ALREADY!!1", since I used most of them on my own gear. Guaranteed wealth is better than the lolcasinocrapshoot with a likely loss in value due to resetting links that are fusings.

As long as you can change Alterations for Fusings at the VENDOR 8:1 and trade your Fusings for Chaos 2:1, the exchange rate Alterations:Chaos will be 16:1. It's just logic. ;)

I wonder, if many of the 20:1 traders run straight to the vendor and do the same as I described above with a net win of 4 Alterations.
