Our feelings about Beta Invite complaints

Thanks for the very thorough post, Chris, it's nice for the developers to come out and be straight without a wall of PR nonsense between them and the consumer. Look forward to the opportunity to play PoE soon.

Thanks!
nice
@Chris random timer is ok but you should consider to do some filtering methods...

"
if user register date = last login date HALT

An user who registered and never logged in should not considered a good tester... that person shows no interest in the game

"
if user forum's post = 0 HALT

same as above, he registered, maybe read some guidelines and bye bye.

if you use this filter on your random timer... trust me... 80% of user selected will be active and interested beta testers = happy comments in forum.

Please consider it, regards.
I can understand that. I think its a good sign that you have this much love already for your game. Good Luck

Just to share a little bit; Chris sent me a PM in response to my thread and linked this thread for me. That's a pretty huge message to have a dev go out of his way to message a random poster that isn't overly happy with something they have done. It looks like they're picking up the ball and putting way more effort into everything.

Good job, guys.

Its there any idea how long the wait for OBT is? This may help alleviate the frustration of missing out on CBT.
To be honest, I understand the problems but still, it could've been much better.

Day X to Y
From X to Y o'clock
5 keys every five minutes
Then no one with 0 post, no one with register date = last login date and maybe 2 of the five are for veterans.

That would be a fast and cool event. But making it slower than honey in winter is just annoying for most people.
Here's my problem with this: Quit blaming your users for being angry at your management of this beta release! They're RIGHT!

The debacle you are dealing with now is ENTIRELY your fault. You set expectations WAY to high for the amount of users you were actually willing to accommodate vs the size of your audience just here, much less everywhere else on the net. You also made it very clear from word one that the only thing that was required to get a chance at beta was to sign up on this site. Then the beta actually releases, and all of a sudden, active forum users get a huge bonus chance. And you're surprised when this leads to spam and crushes your webservers? Then "veterans" whine, and they get a huge bonus, half the keys every day going to maybe 10% at most of your fans, at the expense of everyone else's already abysmal chances being cut in half. Then this "group" and that "site" and on and on. Every key you give out away from this site is a key that someone who actually followed the rules, YOUR rules, isn't going to get, given that the max size is SEVERELY limited at the moment. You keep moving the finish line, Chris. People don't like that.

You know what it looks like to most reasonable people? It looks like you cater to whiners. It looks like any "group" who bitches enough will be given extra consideration. And the people who just signed up, on the impression that YOU gave, that that was all that was required, get screwed, every time. And you're surprised that many people are angry about this? Seriously? Also, what does this say about what will happen post-release? Enough people whine that Witches are OP, and out comes the nerf bat? Pick a new target, lather, rinse, repeat? Are you in control of your game here, or is it a complaint competition?

You know Chris, based on what I've seen of the game in the streams and whatnot, I think that you're undoubtedly a great game designer, and a great project manager, and a great producer, but dude... you SUCK at community relations. Community relations requires someone who will stick to their guns, not endless appeasement. If you really only wanted a manageable number of "co-designers", you really should have quietly hand picked ALL of them, and delayed the public beta until you were in a position to accommodate a much larger portion of your already fanatical following.

At this point, I've given up entirely caring about your game. Probably so have a LOT of other people, but unlike me, they won't say anything here... they'll just silently leave, maybe forever. Maybe they'll get an email a couple of months from now, and maybe they'll come back when they do... or maybe not. I might play it if a key shows up some day, which is admittedly pretty unlikely and getting more unlikely every day, and I might take a look at it next year, when you release, if I'm not busy with the handful of MUCH better games that are coming out at the end of this year... but I'm done hanging out on your site in this sewer of a forum full of whiners and watching you bend over backwards breaking your own rules trying to appease them all, and then crying that everyone hates you when you can't.

Next time, don't take a barely alpha product into public (even if closed) beta with a huge hype machine attracting tens of thousands of people, when you only have the resources to properly handle a few hundred. That's just a recipe to piss off a lot of people, which in a free to everything, micro-transaction game, is really not a smart idea.

Final note for all the "just be patient" forum ass lickers: Don't bother. This reply is directed to Chris, and maybe he cares... maybe he doesn't. Regardless, I couldn't care less what any of you brown-nosers have to say about it, and I'm certainly not about to debate any of these points with you (I'll happily debate them with Chris if he likes, but really, I think he has better things to be doing with his time). People like you are WHY I don't post on (or usually even bother reading) official game site forums. You just keep sitting here waiting for Pavlov to ring your bell.

I'm out. Have fun peeps. Cheers!

why bother posting then? Just send it in a PM so he can ignore you like everyone else should. All these forums are filled with people whining and moaning about beta keys. It's called a chance, they didn't promise you a good chance or a bad one so stfu already. No one is going to just give you a beta key and your chances will ALWAYS suck at getting into ANY beta, get over it and please stop filling the forums with the dribble.
I agree with everything Chris said :).
