No respec options? No thanks.
" That sounds nice and all. But if you don't know how the game plays, how exactly are you going to plan for it? New players builds will be based on more or less educated guesses or be a carbon copy of a build from the forums. A free full respec when you reach max level would be nice. Or a way to start over at level 1 with the same character and get some minor bonus. People like to be "attached" to their main character, the game should really not discourage that. |

" Thats an absoluetly demanding fact, if the feature is added to commit settings just before leaving the map. (makes no sense if you cant check the impact) invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" is it really so hard? (even for a newbie) The very most nodes around the starting areas are directing you into a useful path (for a not absolutely uncommon build, which an unexperienced player maybe should not choose...); nearly all of them are very self-explaining if you just look a bit at your char and his skills and equip: you should recognize which stats you'll need and wich demandings come from the gems... so it should not be a problem to take care not to take the dead-end e node at the templar, or to see the background behind the dual-wield path on the duelist... I still cant see, why it should be such a problem if a new player just think a little bit about the game, and take a little look around. The new keynodes also add an orientation on what may be desirable to reach. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

This post isn't directed at any single person, so please don't take anything here personally:
It's hard to make a useless build if you apply basic common sense like "I'm using axes, so I should take axe passives," and "I want to use strength-based items, so I should take strength." If a player has any questions on how something works, there are plenty of resources to check before he is left to assume how mechanics function. Almost every detail of this game that affects character viability is available to beta testers. Basically, there is no excuse for making a terrible character. It's the player's fault, being either lack of understanding due to laziness or a complete disregard for logic. A full respec (especially in the late game) goes directly against GGG's design concept that one shouldn't be able to completely change builds without paying a hefty price. Actually, they don't want you to be able to completely change your build at all without starting over, but the immense amount of complaints led them to compromise by granting players Orbs of Regret and respec points. With these, you can change your build multiple times throughout the game. They're not expensive, considering their utility value (not nearly as expensive as they should be, in my opinion). This game doesn't need full respecs. The only reason people want them is to become powerful faster and/or to fix their own mistakes. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

" Ouh..... what a bad idea. :) This will effect that all players will use "most efficient leveling build" and then they will swith to "most efficient farming build". Exacly like in some crappy World Of Warcraft or smth. Welcome in the World Of Clones. No thx. I have solution and compromise about respecs: If you that badly fears that you will screw your character and that you will lvl char with playstyle thay will bore you after XX lvls i suggest: ONE FREE RESPEC PER CHAR USABLE ONLY BEFORE CLVL 33. Make special NPC for this to eliminate "accidentially clicks". 33lvl is 1/3 of game levelspan so you will have most skills available, much of the supports available, good chunk of items available, etc... You definitely can judge that you like this particular playstyle (cold witch, 2h mara, shieled duelist, etc..) or not after 33 lvls. Later if u screw something for example on lvl 79 you may use Regret Orbs - thay will be rather easy to get for hugh lvls char and you will get refund points from quests too (at least 8 - like atm). Other sugestion is to not make it lvl 33 but that u can make free resspec until u end Act3 normal (you can after final boss fight but you can't when you enter Act1 Cruel). Thoughts guys? |

Or ignore post above. I have a afterthought now....
ITS A F2P GAME - IF YOU WANT IT THAT MUCH YOU'LL BUY RESPEC FROM ITEM SHOP. Problem solved. :) |

" Hard to get a build that works? No, not at all. Hard to get a build that you are satisfied with and don't want to reroll? Yes, close to impossible if you don't take a full build straight from the forum. Having a respec does not mean that players won't have to "think a little bit about the game", it only means that it won't be as painful when you realise that your build could be alot better (which will be the case 99% of the time.) A free full respec for the first character on your account that reaches max level. How does that sound? |
|
" That would be great. |
|
"Judging by GGG's comments on the planned late-game leveling curve, it would probably be faster to scrap the character and level a new one if you're not happy with the build. "Absolutely not. A full respec is definitely an advantage, and we should all know GGG's stance on selling advantages. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

" Maybe so. That's even more reason to allow it. They are characters, not vessels.... |
