Names should be wiped as well tommorow.

It's actually sad that so many people forgot what the purpose of a closed beta is. It's not to have an advantage or something received. It's for helping the dev team and testing and NOTHING else. In my book that name reserved thing is unfair (aside when it's for the ones who payed yeah..)

I have college classes when OB hits, so I'd be at a distinct disadvantage to try to snag my desired name(s).

I think paying $10 entitles a person to a little bit compared to other people, so having a name reserved seems fair to me. For people who won the timer or got a free key some other way, then lucky them, they should get the perks that a $10 supporter gets. Luck plays a part in real life, perhaps it's a little unfair, but, well, life is unfair :p

(note: I'm not raging or anything, names are just cosmetic anyway, they don't provide a gameplay advantage)

If you can't get the handle you wanted, deal with it. I'm personally no good at making up names for my characters. But, you don't see the likes of me complaining that it's unfair that names are reserved. Names are just that, names. Make up another one, or just put in something uncreative. Have fun playing the damn game instead of going on about names.

The people who didn't want to part with $10 don't have any right to complain about not getting their favorite user name. Especially because I imagine most of them have played other games that cost them $50+ but they couldn't pony up $10 for this one.

Oh, and this. Even I could scrape up a few dollars to put in for the game, though I was lucky enough to get a beta key first.

I find it quite funny that one of the reasons given is due to proper roleplaying in the OP's post - though, most serious roleplayers that I've come across have unique names that they've created and written a whole backstory for. If you're name is something like Phoenix, expect it to be taken everywhere. Thankfully, I learned my lesson a long while ago and picked a gamer tag that no one in the world ever uses.

So you want to change the rights to names from people who registered first to people who get lucky enough to login first tomorrow.

How is that somehow more fair?

Registering first had little to do with how the beta giveaways actually were. It was all about luck or a friend who had a spare key. So basically the ones with more connections were the first to receive a key.

Yeah tomorrow the first ones to log in will get their name first. But at least EVERYONE has the equal chance to try and log in first.

Everyone had the same chance of getting a beta key before as well, some were just luckier than others.
Just like tomorrow some will be luckier to log in first although thousands will log in at the same time.

I don't understand, you're against one arbitrarily random way of securing names which you say is unfair, yet you propose another just as arbitrarily random way of securing names which would now all of a sudden be more fair.

It doesn't make sense.
i have been on CB 1,5 years now and i still didin't get one name that i wanted.. "Pesmerga" from suikoden 1 and 2, damn you suikoden fans :D

but its ok i can find new names.
"Proper roleplaying?"

That sort of died out around the era of D&D 3.5. It isn't that easy to find good RP examples in most of the places around the internet at large. Most RPing is usually just posing in another form IMO, given the rather loose standards some people set today. Rather, most people.

If you want to roleplay, you might honestly be better served playing AD&D 1st ed or 2nd ed. An aRPG with not much lore to it at the moment might not be the best source of material to RP in, strictly speaking, unless you just want to yell really loudly about how your Templar put down Brutus for the sake of his God.

If you're good at RPing though, do your thing, it's fine by me. I'll admit to doing some myself now and then, and once the game world is fleshed out some more with lore and things, I want to write a piece of fan fiction based off of it. I'd do it now but I haven't got much of an imagination for making up details that won't mess up the lore of the world at large.

If you wrote an entire story though, you could just make up a new name and make some changes to it to better fit the new name as such - its what a good RPer would do. :)

Also, just because this thread is close to the top page, I want to ask a question.

While the character names are going to stay, what will happen to the leagues that they are in? I'm assuming that you can choose which league to play in the first time you load your character, but I haven't seen anybody deny or confirm this so far.

Reserving your character name was part of the incentive to buy a supporter pack and get early beta access.

By the time I heard about the game, one of my go-to names was already taken. I'm lucky I got in when I did.

Worst case scenario you can just delete the character and recreate it in the appropriate league.

Yeah, of course. Just felt that that would be a little inconvenient. I don't mind sparing a extra few seconds though.
